Here is a story about how Walmart accidentally saved CVS from itself.

Arkansas got fed up with PBMs, the drug middlemen who sit between you and your medicine, inflating prices and steering patients toward the pharmacies they own. So in 2025, Arkansas did something no state had ever done. It passed a law, Act 624, banning any company that runs a PBM from also owning pharmacies in the state.

If you control the prices AND own the stores, you can starve every competitor and route all the money to yourself. So Arkansas said: pick one. You cannot be the referee and a player at the same time.

Watch how CVS responded. They did not offer to spin off the pharmacies. They did not even pretend to negotiate. Their answer was: fine, we will close all 23 of our Arkansas stores. Done. That tells you everything about where the real money is. The PBM is the crown jewel. The pharmacies are just a place to catch the money on its way home. Make them choose, and they will drop the drugstores without blinking.

BUT...Arkansas is Walmart country, and Walmart runs its pharmacy operation differently. So to avoid blowing up their hometown giant, lawmakers wrote a carve-out that effectively exempted Walmart while leaving out-of-state chains like CVS fully exposed.

And that carve-out is exactly what sank the whole law.

In July 2025, a federal judge blocked Act 624 with a preliminary injunction, ruling it likely violates the Constitution's Commerce Clause because it discriminates against out-of-state companies. In other words: by bending the law to protect Walmart, Arkansas handed CVS the precise legal argument it needed to kill it. Walmart didn't mean to rescue CVS. The exemption did it for them.

Arkansas had the right instinct. The conflict of interest is real, and other states are now moving on the same idea. But as long as the middleman keeps his seat in the middle, with the power to set prices and move the money, he will find a way to route it back to himself. Ownership rules are a speed bump, not a fix.

There is a simpler answer that needs no lawsuit and no legislature: don't use a middleman at all.

That is the entire point of us. No PBM, no spread, no smoke and mirrors. Just the real cost of your medication and a fair, transparent price.

Tractor Supply is catching major heat after North Carolina hot dog vendor Jeff Hartman of All American Hot Dogs says the company banned him from every location because of his personal pro-Trump Facebook posts. He had been serving at the Spring Lake store, even feeding employees and managers for free, and publicly thanked the local manager just weeks earlier.

Hartman made it clear he doesn’t push politics from the cart and “could care less who you voted for.” The decision allegedly came down from a regional manager, cutting off a small business that was simply trying to make a living with an All-American theme.

This is the same company that walked back its DEI programs in 2024 after customer backlash. Now a hardworking vendor who supported the President and treated their workers well is told he’s no longer welcome on their property. Jeff did nothing wrong.
