We are far from the top of this cycle.
Meerily a correction before we enter into the true froth of what makes a bubble.
Remember what happened at the top of the last cycle.
- Crowdfunding $40m DAO to purchase the constitution
- Shearing and milking digital animals and making $10,000 of daily yield
- Celebrities creating and shilling their own NFTs
- Large brands like Nike buying out crypto NFT projects and using terms like WAGMI
Now imagine what the top of this cycle looks like:
- DAOs buying out top 500 companies
- Multiple celebrities with their own memecoins
- Large brands with their own memecoins
What else are you expecting to happen at this cycle's top?
I'm coming up on 4 years sober and want to talk a bit about addiction.
I am an addict, through and through.
I used to think "oh I just have an addictive personality", which sure, is true, but that's reductive to the core of it: addiction is a disease.
Alcohol has been my most severe addiction, and the most debilitating one. It is the one addiction that, having been under control for 4 years, has turned my life around. Saved my life.
But just because I no longer drink any more, doesn't mean I am no longer an addict, or that I don't get addicted to things.
As Craig Ferguson said in his incredible monologue on alcoholism (look it up): "I don't have a drinking problem. I have a thinking problem".
The reason I drank was "to escape".
To not think the thoughts I had in my head, to not deal with life, to not deal with emotions, to not deal with conflict, to stop the menacing self-loathing and over-thinking.
Alcohol was my medicine.
It worked until it didn't, and then things got so much worse as you'd expect.
Fortunately I was able to, eventually, find a way to sobriety. All are not so lucky. But while my alcoholism is under control, my addiction issues are still around.
I replaced alcohol with sugar, and will very often binge eat disgustingly copious amounts of terribly processed sugar.
I replaced alcohol with video games, and will run to a virtual world to escape the difficulties of real life any chance I get.
I replaced alcohol with YouTube, and will mindlessly scroll shorts in order to stop my brain from even having half a second to think about "real life".
I replaced alcohol with crypto gambling, and will FOMO into the most random projects and shitcoins to chase those quick wins and dopamine spikes.
This last point is one that I see all around in this space. I KNOW what I "should" and "should not" do, but I don't always practice what I preach (and I know I am a tiresome bore of a preacher at times).
Just these last couple of days as the market has seemed bullish again, I have noticed the FOMO come rushing back, and the allure of aping into something even though i know it's a bad idea.
I'm mostly able to control it, but not always. The pull is always there.
It takes a lot of self control to fight against and if you know anything about addicts, self control is the one thing we are always coming up short on.
I'm still trying to figure out how to best navigate this space, and this world, with this disease.
I think a lot of people suffer from addiction.
For me, it has been helpful to hear other people talk about it. So I hope this is that, for someone else.

I have a lot of friends who are not "into" investing.
For me, I'm not "into" investing.
It is something that we must do, like working out and eating.
Everyone should know how to allocate capital effectively.
To not, deprives your future.
