On July 1, 2026, the USMCA joint review deadline arrives. Failure to secure a clean extension will spark major economic uncertainty and put over 2.5 million Canadian jobs at risk.

We should take great embarrassment in Carney and Ford’s masterclass in unnecessary escalation. Threatening to shut off power to US homes, pulling American alcohol off shelves, running the ill-fated Reagan ad campaign, flip-flopping on the DST, cozying up to China on EVs, and endless attacks on our biggest customer, the one country that buys over 75 percent of our exports.

Time to wake up Canada.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Moya Brennan. She was truly one of the greatest singers of our time, and, without question, my favourite musician ever.

As the older sister of Enya and the iconic lead voice of Clannad, she was part of a remarkable family that brought the ethereal beauty of Celtic music to the world. Her mesmerizing vocals, rooted in Irish tradition yet so universally moving, touched millions.

Last night, I had gone to bed listening to her music, completely unaware that she had passed earlier that day.

One of her best known songs remains the iconic dance track "Saltwater" with Chicane, a perfect fusion of her haunting, melancholic voice and uplifting electronic production. For me, it is the greatest song ever made.

May her beautifully haunting music echo through time, carrying the spirit of Donegal and the soul of Celtic tradition forever.

Rest in peace, Moya. Thank you for the soundtrack to so many moments in my life.

Did any of you actually listen to the Bank of Canada Governor today? Seriously, did you?

The two things the BoC is focussed on are the war in Iran and the lack of a trade deal with the US - both of which our pal Carney is taking no action on.

Most concerning, the Bank of Canada Governor has stated, “We need house prices to come down.” It is baffling and outright negligent that our bank leader would sacrifice all those home owners who had followed the rules and found a way to buy for those having trouble to buy.

Media never questions this narrative.

The only person to have raised this concern is President Trump in the US, who has said, “Every time you make it more and more and more affordable for somebody to buy a house cheaply, you’re actually hurting the value of those houses, obviously, because the one thing works in tandem with the other. And I don’t want to do anything that’s going to hurt the value of people that own a house.”

Breaking: SCOTUS Rules 6-3 Against Trump's IEEPA Tariffs. What Does It Mean For Canada? Very Little.

The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled today 6 to 3 against President Trump's IEEPA Tariffs. Such a decision could result in the USA having to pay back over $250B in collected revenue.

Sadly, this means very little for Canada. While it invalidates some fentanyl-related duties on non-USMCA-compliant goods (a minor relief for many exporters), the ruling explicitly does not affect many other U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods, which were imposed under different legal authorities. These include sectoral tariffs on automobiles, lumber, and other industries, which were issued under separate trade laws or authorities, not IEEPA. Steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada were issued under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, for national security reasons, and doubled to 50 percent in June 2025.

While Canadian media will surely celebrate this ruling as a historic defeat, the need for a new trade deal between Canada and the USA remains. The fact that the USA buys almost 80% of Canadian exports is the ultimate reality that Canada must focus on protecting.

As we have always maintained, the Canadian economy would gain significant stability from a robust trade agreement with the United States, provided the government can overcome its ineffective negotiation efforts and missteps. Unfortunately, such a critical deal remains in limbo and uncertainty in the economy persists. Further, a seemingly forgotten obstacle in the media is that the Canadian ban on foreign buyers remains in effect until January 1, 2027.

They’ve become wealthy because of their house. And every time you make it more and more and more affordable for somebody to buy a house cheaply, you’re actually hurting the value of those houses, obviously, because the one thing works in tandem with the other.

And I don’t want to do anything that’s going to hurt the value of people that own a house who, for the first time in their lives, are walking around the streets of whatever city they’re in, very proud that their house is worth $500,000, $600,000, $700,000.
