I would have to disagree with Wald's statement. There is a different atmosphere created by live music that many people enjoy which recorded music just doesn't have. I definitely don't think it's accurate to say that all of our generation would prefer recorded music.

@ColeKaytlin@SamJacobson19 You have a great point there. Just because it is easy to access recorded music, does not always mean that our entire generation prefers this. I consider myself to be one of the people who would sometimes prefer to listen to music live, regardless of who is playing. #MUS2011F20
@SteveAMorrison2 While I agree with you that the majority of people would rather dance and sing along to songs by their favorite artist, I still think there something different which I enjoy about listening to live music, regardless of whether or not it's a cover of the original. #MUS2011F20
@SteveAMorrison2 I definitely agree with you on the fact that there is some value in the "Shlock" music due to the fact that it was another step, (even if it could be considered a minor one) towards white people appreciating music that comes from black artists! #MUS2011F20
The term "Schlock" describes one artist stealing another's music and making it their own without proper credit to the original. Shlock music shouldn't be written off, as long as any changes made are able to provide something different and original, to the song. #MUS2011F20
@dag98mun You're correct in saying that these artists disrespect those from who they steal the music however, I don't agree that the altered music has no value. Another artist could add another element to a song which makes it better. As long as credit is given, that's fine. #MUS2011F20
@DaniyalMumtaz You can definitely hear the emotion and passion in his voice when he sings, which is what made him such a unique artist. I believe that the breakthroughs he made in music influences even new music being produced today! #MUS2011F20
To me, Ray Charles' "breaking voice" is what sets him apart from other artists. The carefree, raw emotion that he put into his music is something that not many artists of his time or even today possess and it's a large part of what made him so successful and unique. #mus2011f20
@SteveAMorrison2 Agreed Steve, his voice was so unique from all other singers during his time that it enabled him to get ahead and make his mark on the music industry in a way that not many have been able to do. This is one of the many reasons why he will go down as an all-time great. #MUS2011F20
#mus2011f20 Music streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple music have changed how we listen to music for the better. Instead of paying money for an individual song, or illegally downloading music, you can pay a low monthly fee to get you access to whatever songs you want.
@Provencher34 Something to be said about this. I'll often find a song I like and listen to it for a while, but as soon as I find something new to listen too I forget about the first one and how much I used to appreciate it. Constant accessibility for sure decreases our appreciation of music.
@DaniyalMumtaz Bluetooth is such an underrated invention that I think a lot of people take for granted given how widely used and accessible it is today. I can remember the first time I used it as well. It is a very convenient feature that makes listening to music even easier! #MUS2011F20
One false need that exists in the music industry is that there is only a certain type of music which is successful and popular. This idea also keeps listeners passive by forcing the same idea that they should be listening to this same music style like everyone else. #MUS2011F20
@SteveAMorrison2 There is definitely a false need for artists to be radio-friendly. Although it's a different genre of music, Hip-Hop artists such as Russ and Mike Stud for example have had a lot of success recently, without ever releasing music you would typically hear on the radio. #MUS2011F20
@DaniyalMumtaz I agree with this, nowadays when a new "popular" song comes out it gets overplayed to the point of being unenjoyable. But, due to this overload of the same type of music always being played and advertised as "popular" music, listeners are constantly kept passive. #MUS2011F20
