@basketballtalk The most alarming thing about Tobias was he was at his worst when they needed him most….when other studs were struggling, he did virtually nothing. Sure, he had decent per game numbers but in the big moments he has historically disappeared completely.
It’s this garbage false media narrative that keeps Pittsburgh at perpetual .500. Tomlin is a great guy and easy to love. But his teams have ugly collapsed in big games & done nothing great over the last decade. He’s not held to the same standard as other coaches. Stop the lies.
@Deadspin If the Suns hire Doc, they deserve what they get. He’s had major collapses at his last 3 stops. Good regular season coach, doesn’t have the technical knowledge to compete in playoffs.
@RBPhillyTake The Sixers front office (poor draft picks galore, Tobias bloated insane contract, giving up Butler, drafting Markell, & countless other blunders) should be investigated for drug use. No one can be this stupid, can they?
@Sean_Barnard1 Between Brett and then Doc, Sixers have been on the downside of every scheme and gameplan. It took extra heroics to win because they were rarely able to outwit the opponent (especially playoffs). We see what a schemer like Spoelstra is doing. Nurse would be a great hire.
@CBSSports@CoachAvery6 Compare Doc’s situation to a man who has been divorced many times….. maybe the first wife or two was bad, but eventually after the fifth or sixth one, you gotta start wondering if it’s the man’s fault. You simply cannot have that many playoff collapses and say he’s a good coach.
@CBSSports@CoachAvery6 What Doc defenders don’t acknowledge is that almost ALL of his best players over the years have collapsed in big games. Is it all their fault? Or were they not put in a position to succeed with good game plan. RW said today the Doc doesn’t even adjust much. Insane. Good riddance.
@jonjohnsonwip Two things need to happen. 1) Hire Cassell, because the familiarity. Joel ‘s window is too short to start back over. 2) Tobias MUST go. Cannot pay a role player nearly $40 million. Completely handcuffs the roster. Could have gotten 2–3 good players.
@ESPNStatsInfo Its about expectations. One could make an argument that everyone of their rosters were told attended enough to win a championship. All three of them fell short in a collapse.
@TullyMarz@jonjohnsonwip@SportsRadioWIP The same Tobias that scored TWO points in the pivotal game 6? I do agree the other three were trash in that game, but let’s not brag on Tobias. The focus needs to be on Doc, and why he has had MULTIPLE teams that collapsed in big moments? Is it coincidence? Nope.
@jonjohnsonwip Joel is not the problem. He needed another superstar that was mentally stronger than Harden to help him. He’s just frustrated. The problem is the dumb front office that signed Tobias to a Supermax, traded away Mikal Bridges for peanuts, and signed/kept Doc Rivers.
@andrewperloff Agree. Blame Brett for trading away Bridges, and so many wasted picks by front office. If it weren’t for Joel and Tyrese, it might be the worst 10 years stretch of front office decisions in NBA history.
@Ballislife Played/watched sports for over 50 years. Was a part of teams that “refused to lose” that had excellent coaching. Even in losses, talented teams should still be competitive. I’m shocked at the # of Doc teams who don’t show up. Says a LOT about his ability as coach and motivator.
