Armani Ferrante, CEO of @Backpack, on why Solana is becoming the aggregation layer for everything
“Solana has always been marching towards something much bigger than any single exchange. You could call it an API for all of finance, or a parallel economy and financial system. But I think the end state is Solana as the aggregation layer for everything."
"It’s all about importing market structure. Not just crypto-native assets, but the entire economy, because the network effect is money.”
@armaniferrante@KyleSamani
Burning on conversion is definitely on the table but we’re going to stay open to do whatever is optimal. The intention is for the token to live on and continue to grow beyond an IPO. Imagine Arc or the inevitable Base token but issued to the most active users before the actual IPOs. The beauty of the business is there’s an infinite number of things for us to do if we hit the scale we dream of achieving.
If you fail to grasp the value of the @Backpack / solana:BPxxfRCXkUVhig4HS1Lh7kZqV6SPJhzfEk4x6fVBjPCy -to-equity swap, you simply don't understand the world you live in.
You rent your movies, music, video games, gym access, storage, and home security systems.
In short, you own nothing or at least, fewer and fewer things. And you pay every month to maintain access, and the moment the payments stop, so does the access.
My point is that true wealth will come from actually owning tangible assets—things that cannot be taken away or rented out to you. Like shares in a solid company.
Capital has replaced labor. Investments will replace wages. Owning the Backpack token and Backpack shares is my play for next decades.
As Warren Buffett says, "No one follows my advice because no one wants to get rich slowly. Yet, it is the best way to succeed."
Patience and ownership. And Backpack.
There’s currently some FUD about @Backpack, subtly implying that the exchange is still young (only 4 years old) and that withdrawing $10K gets delayed for 4 hours.
I want to clarify: This is an optional security feature, not a bug or “stuck funds.”
Backpack has a Withdrawal Delay feature:
Go to Settings → Accounts: Exchange → Security → Withdrawal Delay.
Users can turn it on themselves and choose the waiting time (e.g. 4h, 12h, 24h, etc.).
It only applies when withdrawing to a new external wallet address (not yet saved in the Address Book, or saved for less time than the delay you’ve set).
Addresses that have been whitelisted / saved longer than the delay period are withdrawn normally and quickly.
Internal transfers between sub-accounts are not affected by the delay.
Armani even actively recommends using this feature, going as far as saying that “instant withdrawals are an utterly stupid thing that crypto has normalized,” because it helps protect against hacks, clipboard malware, mistyped addresses, etc.
A guy who left over $4M on the Fomo app got hacked. Today, $80M stored on Ledger was completely drained due to a supply chain issue.
Yet when Backpack is trying to protect its users, some people use that as a reason to criticize it?
Citrini lists many big names. And one small Marketcap one, $BP from @Backpack 🎒 gets a 5% Crypto allocation. One of smallest Marketcap on the list
Too high, those not familiar may say?
Too low, the @MadLads will say
Buy BP. Stake BP. Use Backpack.
Fock It!
