Humans focus on trying to "train" a dog using all sorts of tools and methods.
The problem? They don't really understand the psychology of the dog they are attempting to train.
This includes most "dog trainers."
How can you train an animal you don't understand?
Mama dogs are definitely not joke when it comes to rules, boundaries and limitations with their puppies.โฃ
โฃ
I understand that some people may have a difficult time with seeing a mom correct her puppies like this, especially with the squealing, but I think it's important to show the how serious moms can be.โฃ
โฃ
This mom is NOT correcting her puppy like this because she doesn't like her puppy.โฃ
โฃ
She's teaching respect by following through on the rules boundaries and limitations she sets.โฃ
โฃ
Was this a little harsh?โฃ
โฃ
Maybe, but we don't know if this pup had been breaking rules or showing a lack of respect to mom before this.โฃ
โฃ
Some moms are definitely more serious about respect and following rules, boundaries, and limitations.โฃ
โฃ
Many of my clients are women who tell me they know they need to be a leader but just want to give affection, cuddle and baby talk with their puppy or dog.โฃ
โฃ
I remind them that while nurturing is without a doubt a more feminine trait, with dogs, mom is a calm confident leader first for her puppies and nurtures that relationship.โฃ
โฃ
What did you think of this?โฃ

If you follow my content, you understand that the energy of the individual dog is the most important thing to understand.โฃ
โฃ
Determining whether that energy is compatible with your energy, your lifestyle and your environment is the next step in selecting the right dog for you.โฃ
โฃ
What is often overlooked is the different lines of breeding within the same breed of dog.โฃ
โฃ
A perfect example is the Labrador Retriever breed.โฃ
โฃ
I've worked with goofy, lazy, happy go lucky Labradors but also worked with high energy, determined, strong willed Labradors who require serious leadership and high levels of exercise fulfilment.โฃ
โฃ
To me, a Labrador who comes from a long line of high energy hunting dogs is completely different than a Labrador who was bred from calm, happy go lucky parents.โฃ
โฃ
Are you starting to understand why compatability is so important and what to look for when selecting the most compatible dogs for you?
What did you see between these bully breed dogs?โฃ
โฃ
In my opinion, these are two compatible energy dogs who are both in play state and matching each other's play nicely.โฃ
โฃ
Neither are getting too intense or trying to take advantage of each other.โฃ
โฃ
Most of the public will focus on the breeds here and assume these dogs are going to fight.โฃ
โฃ
Unfortunately, creating labels and assumptions based on those labels is something many humans do with dogs and with each other.โฃ
โฃ
We label each other based on race, religion, gender, country, state, political views, and much more.โฃ
โฃ
What do humans tend NOT to do?โฃ
โฃ
Live in the moment and assess and evaluate dogs and each other based on energy.โฃ
โฃ
Who that dog or person is on the inside, not these labels we've created to judge by assuming who they are based on labels we've created that just divide us.โฃ
โฃ
Do different breeds have different general traits based on the breed?โฃ
โฃ
Generally speaking, yes.โฃ
โฃ
Do different people from certain cultures, religions, countries have different views and traits?โฃ
โฃ
Generally speaking, yes.โฃ
โฃ
But what matters most is what is the energy inside that person or dog.โฃ
โฃ
Who are they on the inside?โฃ
โฃ
Once humans figure out how to live in the moment, assess other humans and dogs on who they are on the inside, the world will be a much better place!โฃ
โฃ
Speaking as someone who used to be stuck in past/future, judge and label people.โฃ
โฃ
Life gets amazing when you live in the moment and see dogs and people for who they are on the inside โค๏ธโฃ

Is it ok to allow small dogs to play with large dogs? My answer: it depends.โฃ
โฃ
On what?โฃ
โฃ
The individual dogs and who is leading the dogs involved in the play.โฃ
โฃ
If you have the ability to stop the dogs, especially the larger dog, and send that dog back to calmness, then play between large and small dogs can be OK.โฃ
โฃ
My 20 lbs. cavapoo, Dawson, has been playing with his brothers Marty (100 lbs American Bulldog) and Nico (95 lbs. German Shepherd) his whole life with no issues.โฃ
โฃ
But...I have the ability to create rules about playing with small dogs, like Dawson, and enforce them.โฃ
โฃ
Nico and Marty are allowed to play very rough together.โฃ
โฃ
They are not allowed to play that way with Dawson.โฃ
โฃ
The risk of an injury with them playing rough with a small dog is too high in my opinion due to size.โฃ
โฃ
If Nico was the Shepherd in this video, I'd allow him to play with the chihuahua chasing him but the moment he started to try and chase the Chihuahua, I'd stop him.โฃ
โฃ
Most people dont have the ability to stop their dogs which is why most people should not allow large/small dogs to play together.โฃ
โฃ
Once dogs understand the rules, they understand what's allowed and what's not.โฃ
โฃ
I dont have to tell Marty and Nico not to rough house with Dawson because they now understand the rulesโฃ
โฃ
Once you set rules and follow through on them, it's a just a matter of maintaining them, not constantly enforcing them.๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ

Have you ever noticed your dog staring at you?โฃ
โฃ
I've actually gotten quite a few messages as to why a dog may be staring at their owner throughout the course of a day.โฃ
โฃ
Dogs have an incredible ability to adapt to many different situations, probably why they ended up in our homes with us.โฃ
โฃ
They are masters at feeling energy and studying body language.โฃ
โฃ
They learn quickly how a human moves, what their energy is, and what behaviors are associated with it.โฃ
โฃ
For example, when you put on different clothes, a specific pair of shoes, or reach for the leash, they learn quickly, which means they are going for a walk.โฃ
โฃ
That's the obvious stuff.โฃ
โฃ
What may not be as obvious is when they study your body language and feel your energy if you are in an anxious, fearful, or angry state as well.โฃ
โฃ
Those energies and the body languages associated with them will never allow them to trust you as a leader/parent-figure.โฃ
โฃ
They also study how you respond when they put pressure on you.โฃ
โฃ
The dog who comes over and demands attention/affection and the human gives it. In this case, they study the softer, passive energy and how you allow them to control you.โฃ
โฃ
Another scenario is the dog who invades their human space, jumping on them, and climbing on top of them while they are on the couch. โฃ
โฃ
Again, they study softer/weaker energy that doesn't have enough respect for its space that the dog can take as it pleases.โฃ
โฃ
Both these scenarios will not allow the dog to feel protected by their human because they studied and learned how the human is easily controlled and doesn't have respect for their own space.โฃ
โฃ
This may seem like a lot, but dogs live 100% in the moment and are 100% honest.โฃ
โฃ
We bring them into our home, and they have nothing else to do but figure out the humans they live with.โฃ
โฃ
Many may see this as a lot to deal with, but to me, I'm so grateful to have 100% honest and 100% in the moment animals who keep me accountable to living in a healthy energy based on the nature code.โฃ
โฃ
Be aware of your energy and your actions.โฃ
โฃ
Your dogs and nature are watching you!๐
One of the biggest things that is overlooked in the dog world is selecting a dog that is compatible for your energy, your lifestyle, your family and living environment.โฃ
โฃ
When I say this, most people think I mean picking the right breed.โฃ
โฃ
While breed doesn't matter, what's WAY more important is the individual energy and exercise needs of the individual dog within that breed.โฃ
โฃ
Shiloh, in this video is a standard poodle.โฃ
โฃ
Some poodles are back or front of pack, some are lower energy while some are even higher energy.โฃ
โฃ
She requires someone who can provide leadership for her stronger energy and also provide enough physical and mental exercise to fulfill her.โฃ
โฃ
What's most important to know is that she is high energy, middle of the pack and can be very pushy.โฃ
โฃ
Would I have matched her with seniors?โฃ
โฃ
Likely no.โฃ
โฃ
However, no that the owners realize what it will take to keep Shiloh fulfilled, they've set up help to meet her exercise and training needs on a daily basis.โฃ
โฃ
Unfortunately, most trainers and daycare services are not focused on dog psychology and instead just let dogs run around in a small area without much structure.โฃ
โฃ
Luckily for Shiloh, she has us and another walker to help meet her needs not just physically, but mentally as well.โฃ
โฃ
Are you understanding the importance of why a dog's individual energy is more important than what breed they are?
This is a pretty crazy situation that unfortunately I don't have much context about.โฃ
โฃ
It is still a good video to understand the body language of the humans and the dog in the video.โฃ
โฃ
Did you see this attack coming?โฃ
โฃ
What signs did you see?โฃ

We've discussed the importance of how to have your dog enter and exit thresholds, like doorways, many times.โฃ
โฃ
We always want to have our dogs enter or exit a threshold in a calm state of mind as with ourselves as leaders going first.โฃ
โฃ
It's not about the common misconception of "showing a dog who's boss." โฃ
โฃ
A threshold is the end of one space and the beginning of a new space.โฃ
โฃ
If we allow our dogs to be highly aroused/excited and go through thresholds first, it can create an association for the dog that when entering or exiting a new space, they are expected to lead us into a new space in an aroused state of mind.โฃ
โฃ
Therefore, in that new space, the dog will make decisions from the lead and do it in a highly aroused state, which is NOT what we want.โฃ
โฃ
I've shown many times how to use the leash to create a scenario where your dog is calm and follows you through the threshold to create an association that in the new space, the dog is in a follow state of mind and calm.โฃ
โฃ
Many understand this for going for a walk, going in the car, going to the vet/groomer/daycare, etc. โฃ
โฃ
I often get asked, "What about the back door? My dog explodes out the back door!"โฃ
โฃ
My recommendation is to use a leash. This way, you can go through the threshold properly and then casually take off the leash.โฃ
โฃ
Some dogs will still explode when taken off the leash, so I will do another video for that as that is a separate issue that should be worked on.โฃ
โฃ
Using a leash indoors is an excellent tool to use when teaching your dog new things or discouraging unwanted behaviors in the home!
Many people deal with their dog having issues in the car with everything from anxiety, hyperarousal, reactivity, vomiting and so on.โฃ
โฃ
I've helped many dogs over the years when it comes to these issues in a vehicle, sometimes extreme issues.โฃ
โฃ
The biggest key is making sure your dog is fulfilled with exercise both physically and mentally.โฃ
โฃ
We want to create the association that the vehicle is a place to rest and recover, a place of calmness.โฃ
โฃ
If your dog has already developed issues in the car, you may need to do significant exercise prior to bring your dog to a vehicle.โฃ
โฃ
It all depends on your individual dog.โฃ
โฃ
Also to note, taking baby steps is a great way to shape the behavior you want in the vehicle.โฃ
โฃ
That may mean starting with just going inside the vehicle, helping the dog achieve calmness, and leaving the car in a calm state to begin building the association.โฃ
โฃ

Energy is the universal language among all species and we get to see that in action between a German Shepherd mix and a mountain goat.โฃ
โฃ
Notice how the mountain goat moves forward with certain energy which gets the Shepherd to retreat. โฃ
โฃ
Although the Shepherd did retreat, you can see he was not overwhelmed by the situation through his energy and body language which tells you he is a pretty confident dog.โฃ
โฃ
Dogs with less confidence would likely get overwhelmed in this situation.โฃ
โฃ
Remember, it's not the breed that makes the Shepherd confident, it's the individual dog and how they were raised.โฃ

This is how I recommend holding a puppy OR a small adult dog.โฃ
โฃ
Remember, it's all the little things that add up to the overall relationship with your dog.โฃ
โฃ
Holding a puppy or small dog like a human baby and exposing their belly can cause them to feel more vulnerable, which could make them more insecure, depending on the individual dog and your relationship with that dog.โฃ
โฃ
Here, you will see Rumi, who is only 8 weeks here, reacting with discomfort to being held upright like a human baby.โฃ
โฃ
Are you getting value from quick tips like this? It's important to me that you are getting value from the content I make.
This is a great example of what is possible when you take the leader/parent-figure position in the relationship with dogs.โฃ
โฃ
Most people struggle to keep one dog calm.โฃ
โฃ
Meanwhile, this owner is able to keep an entire pack of Presa Canarios calm and respectful while feeding them raw meat in close proximity of each other.โฃ
โฃ
Humans tend to blame breeds or blame their individual dog for unhealthy behavior but often refuse to blame themselves for not being able to lead a dog the dog psychology way.โฃ
โฃ
I realize its not common knowledge on how to do that which is why I make as much of this free educational content as I possible can!โฃ

I want to give a lot of credit to the police officer here for not using deadly force in a situation that he would have had the right to do so.โฃ
โฃ
Obviously the dog owner here has zero control of his dogs and has multiple dogs that completely disregard his direction.โฃ
โฃ
I've worked with some police officers, border patrol, and customs agents over the years and hope to be able to work with them even more because they deal with all sorts of unstable dogs due to lack of human leadership.โฃ
โฃ
Obviously the free educational video reviews are back after my verified account was deactivated for 10 days, and it took over a month of legal work, appeals, and multiple escalations to finally have the flag removed from my account.โฃ
โฃ
I'm going to do Live soon explaining the situation, who made the complaint, and give some info about my experience so other creators don't ever have to go through this.โฃ

This is a clear example of a stressed out Dachshund who is resource guarding his owners.
Dachshund owners will tell you this is "a Dachshund thing."
I completely disagree.
This is a dog behavior thing that happens to be a Dachshund doing it.
I've worked with many dogs who resource guard their owners of all different breeds, including Dachshunds.
While certain breeds may be more prone to guarding behavior or react more intensely than other breeds, resource guarding is NOT a breed trait.
The real problem here is the relationship and the lack of leadership that the owner fails to provide this Dachshund.
Trauma in the dog world is something that is not talked about enough.
It's not really talked about ir understood in the human world, so it's understandable why it's not discussed with dogs.
Dogs have an instinctual need to follow a calm and confident leader who provides protection, direction, and love.
Much like a child has a need for attachment to a healthy parent who provides the same.
When that is not provided to a dog or a child, it means a need is not being met, which can wound a dog or child.
Inner wound = Trauma.
Most people think of trauma as a BIG event that's obvious, but most don't realize that a dog or child not having a need met can be traumatic.
It could be as simple as being scared and not having a leader/parent-figure to help you with that feeling.
This owner is failing to provide direction by calmly but firmly disagreeing with this behavior.
It's also highly likely that this owner doesn't provide leadership in other areas, which has led to this dog being fearful and insecurely taking the lead in the relationship.
The more this happens, the more stressed out and out of balance this dog will become.
Again, this is not a Dachshund issue.
This is a relationship issue, and the dog is reacting normally in dog behavior, given the lack of leadership.
Thoughts?
It's incredible to me how confused people are when it comes to understanding the pack mentality that dogs instinctually have.โ
โ
You will hear misinformed things like:โ
โ
"There's no such thing as a pack!"โ
โ
"Dogs are not wolves, and don't form packs!"โ
โ
"There is no such thing as leadership in a pack!"โ
โ
"Pack theory (whatever that means) has been debunnked!"โ
โ
I think many of the people and professionals who say these things are confused.โ
โ
It's obvious dogs do not form natural packs like wolves would in the wild.โ
โ
Why?โ
โ
They're not in the wild. They have been removed from their mother, father, and siblings to live with us, which is not natural to them.โ
โ
However, they are instinctually extremely pack/family oriented and still see things through a pack/family dynamic instinctually.โ
โ
Because we have removed dogs from their natural families, it is our responsibility to understand how they see things instinctually.โ
โ
Just like with people, dogs are born with a certain type of energy that fits generally into a front, middle, and back position.โ
โ
In a pack of wolves, the breeding male and female are the "pack leaders" in nature, much like a mother and a father are the family leaders with children.โ
โ
Because we are removing dogs from their parents, who they would naturally see as a leader, its our job to assume that role, especially being that we are bringing them into our human world.โ
โ
It's our responsibility to understand what pack position our dog is and understand dog psychology so we know how to lead our dog based on their natural position.โ
โ
Note: Front, middle, and back are general positions. My point is that not dogs who are back of the pack are the same. Some backs may be more sensitive than others. Some middles are more playful than others, etc.โ
โ
I have a puppy now who is 8 weeks old and obvious middle. I will make some videos to show examples of her behavior and how I can so quickly determine what position she is.โ
โ
It's incredible how polarizing the word pack is and how so many people argue about it, yet so many people have different definitions and interpretations of what it is.โ
โ
Pack is family. Dogs are pack oriented just like people are family oriented (naturally).
How to deal with dogs and fireworks on the 4th of July! Today we celebrate a special day in America, the day we declared our independence. Itโs a day where friends and family get together to celebrate our freedom.
Something that comes with these parties and celebrations are fireworks ๐ ๐๐งจ
5๏ธโฃ Use a treadmill. Over the years I have helped many dogs overcome fears due to sound.
One thing that works great is teaching a dog to enjoy a treadmill and feel confident about it. I then bring sounds like fireworks/thunder on a speaker at low levels to start and progressively get louder.
Goal is to not trigger them to freak out. If they do, you help them through it and reduce the volume.
Over time, they can deal with more and more volume and the treadmill helps keep their mind in a "moving forward" state vs. a flight "moving backwards" state. Also they need to focus on walking straight on the treadmill that redirects the mind.
