Great to hear @simoncoveney encouring farmers to make use of our comparative advantages in food production by sustainable intensification with use of Clover and better grass management. @NuffieldIreland
I’ve headed for Newbridge where a large group of farmers and tractors have gathered outside the office of Minister Heydon in protest of his continued support for Larry Murrin and in protest of the treatment of our members at Bord Bia HQ.
A thread:🧵Early start this morning. A dozen members of Meath IFA took over from Donegal IFA this morning at 6am at the continuing Bord Bia protest against Larry Murrins untenable position as chair.
I would ask that all members of the farming community share this thread far and wide, please support your county branches in their protests and lobby your TD’s today to ensure this injustice can be stopped!
6 members of IFA are currently inside Bord Bia and have been there for 5 days. They are currently being denied food, water and basic necessities. This is crude measure by Bord Bia against the farmers that fund their and support their work.
IFA are here because Larry Murrin CEO of Dawn Farm Foods is currently Chairman of Bord Bia the Irish food bord. His position is untenable due to the importation of Brazilian Beef and Chicken by Dawn Farm Foods.
Live video update at tonight’s Meath IFA Executive meeting from Bord Bia HQ where IFA members are standing inside in protest against Larry Murrins position as chairperson of Bord Bia.
Larry Murrin has no position on the Board without farmer support - @IFAmedia
When the chair of Bord Bia admits to importing lower-standard Brazilian beef, the credibility of our quality assurance schemes for the food industry is undermined. You cannot demand gold-plated standards from Irish farmers while doing this. Larry Murrin’s position is untenable.
We’ve swapped our dairy ration over to Irish rolled barley this morning and our cows are very happy to be supporting the Irish tillage industry! #tillagecrisis@IFAmedia
Louth & Meath IFA Officers outside the European Commission Building alongside the EU Ag Commissioner Hansen where they got an opportunity to meet him and discuss issues relating to Irish farmers such as GAEC 2 regs, Mercosur & CAP Budget. @IFAmedia
Here is farmer Andrew Wright debunking the cow methane emissions narrative…
“The biggest lie in the world right now is that cows are killing the planet. At the core of that lie is how methane is calculated.”
Plenty of interest in improving water Quality from farmers in Moynalty.
@DairiesJp@FarmingforWater@rtenews that’s a better headline for your cow photo.
