If India truly wants to become a Viksit Bharat by 2047, defence must receive comprehensive focus. Self-reliance in defence cannot be achieved without indigenous, state-of-the-art testing facilities. We cannot keep depending on Russia for jet engine testing, the UK for diesel engines, France for wind tunnel trials, or Italy for UUV testing. It is embarrassing that even a piston engine has to go ‘mountaineering’ just to be validated. Without building these capabilities at home, ‘self-reliance’ will remain a slogan, not a reality.

In the US, the military frequently donates retired aircraft to universities for study. Russia, France, and Israel have partnerships b/w military manufacturers and academic institutions for R&D on legacy systems.
Even within India, HAL and ISRO have a history of collaborating with academic institutions. This can be extended further and retired #MiG21s and their #Engines should be made available to premier institutions like IITs, NITs, IISc, or aerospace R&D centres
Students in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, and Material Sciences would benefit immensely from studying real aircraft systems.

@Defencematrix1 Make sense, and if possible we should try to include some 6th gen tech as well, since it's gonna be Navy's main fighter for at least the next 10-15 years.
