In Revelation 13:18, the apostle John recorded the mark of the beast using three Greek letters: Chi, Xi, and Stigma, written as χξς.
What makes this visual comparison so chilling is how closely those ancient characters mirror the Arabic phrase Bismillah, meaning "in the name of Allah," paired with crossed swords.
If a 1st-century apostle was shown modern badges of allegiance worn across foreheads and right arms, this is remarkably close to what he would have seen and penned. 📷
Typologically, the parallels are impossible to overlook. Scripture warns that the spirit of the antichrist explicitly denies both the Father and the Son, changes set times and laws, demands total submission, and beheads those who refuse to bow.

FROM THE DEPTHS: JONAH & YOM KIPPUR.

Every year on Yom Kippur, during the afternoon service, Jewish communities around the world read the book of Jonah.

Why Jonah?

Because Jonah is one of the clearest pictures in the Tanakh of teshuvah — turning back to God.

Nineveh was a violent, wicked city under judgment. God sent Jonah with a warning:

“Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!”
— Jonah 3:4

But something extraordinary happened.

The people believed God.

They humbled themselves.

They fasted.

They turned from their wickedness.

And Scripture says:

“When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them.”
— Jonah 3:10

That is why Jonah belongs on Yom Kippur.
The message is not simply:

Feel sorry.

It is:

TURN.

The Hebrew idea of teshuvah carries the sense of returning.

Return to God.

Return from sin.

Return while there is still time.

But Jonah is not only about Nineveh’s repentance.

Jonah himself must return.

He runs from the presence of the LORD, resists God’s calling, and becomes angry when God shows mercy.

The prophet preaching repentance is also being confronted by God.

It is easy to see the sins of Nineveh.

It is harder to see the Jonah within ourselves.

And then there is Jonah’s descent.

He goes down to Joppa.

Down into the ship.

Down into the sea.

Down into the depths.

For three days and three nights, Jonah disappears beneath the waters.

Then he is brought up again.

“I descended to the roots of the mountains... but You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God.”
— Jonah 2:6

Jonah’s story is not only about repentance.

It is also about descent and deliverance.
From the depths, Jonah remembers the temple:

“When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to You, into Your holy temple.”
— Jonah 2:7

A man in the depths.

A holy God.

A cry for mercy.
And a return.

Yet Jonah contains another surprise.

Nineveh is not Israel.

It is a Gentile city.

And still God sends a prophet.

Still God warns.

Still God shows compassion.

The God of Israel reveals that His mercy reaches farther than Jonah wanted it to.

That is why the book ends with one of the most arresting questions in Scripture:

“Should I not have compassion on Nineveh...?”
— Jonah 4:11

And then the book stops.

No answer from Jonah.

Just God’s question.

Perhaps the reader is meant to answer it.

Do we share God’s heart for mercy?

Jonah knew exactly who God was:

“For I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness.”
— Jonah 4:2

His theology was correct.

His heart still needed to change.

But Yom Kippur goes deeper still.

Because repentance is not the whole question.

The Torah asks how sin itself is dealt with before a holy God.
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls.”
— Leviticus 17:11

And Leviticus 16 gives one of Scripture’s most vivid pictures of sin being removed from the people.

Sin is not ignored.

It is dealt with.

Removed.

Carried away.

That makes Micah’s words especially powerful:
“Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity... You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”
— Micah 7:18–19

Jonah descends into the depths of the sea.

Micah says God casts sins into the depths of the sea.

Yom Kippur is about more than remorse.

It is about the possibility that guilt can actually be removed.

But then Scripture raises an even deeper question:

How does God ultimately provide that atonement?

Abraham once said:
“God will provide for Himself the lamb.”
— Genesis 22:8

The Torah teaches that God gives blood for atonement.

And later Isaiah speaks of a Servant who would be:

“Pierced for our transgressions... crushed for our iniquities.”

Then Isaiah says:

“The LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.”
— Isaiah 53:5–6

What a progression.

God provides.

God gives.

God removes.

God bears.

Repentance matters.

Humility matters.

Turning back matters.

But Scripture continually points beyond what we do toward what God Himself provides.

And Jonah stands quietly in the middle of this great biblical story:

A prophet who descends into the depths.

Three days.

Then deliverance.

No explanation forced.

No conclusion imposed.

Just the question left hanging before us:

Will we keep running from God, or will we return to Him?

And perhaps Yom Kippur asks one more:

When God provides the way of atonement, will we recognize it?

“Return to Me, and I will return to you.”
— Malachi 3:7

That is the heartbeat of Jonah.

That is the heartbeat of teshuvah.

And it may be one of the deepest heartbeats of Yom Kippur.

Something You Should Keep In Mind

The 2020 election fraud was not simply state-level ballot manipulation. The fraud's protective architecture was the media coordination layer. Without ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, and Fox actively suppressing stories, redirecting narratives, and manufacturing consensus, the fraud could not have survived public scrutiny for even seven days.

The networks were not passive beneficiaries of the fraud. They were active participants in the cover-up. Specific network executives participated in coordination calls with transition team operatives in November and December 2020. ZECHARIAH: GOD REMEMBERS

Zechariah is one of the most breathtaking books in all of Scripture.

Its name means “YHWH remembers,” and that truth runs through the entire book.

God remembers His covenant.
The LORD remembers Jerusalem.
The Holy One of Israel remembers His people.
The King remembers every promise He has spoken.

Zechariah begins with a returned remnant, a damaged city, and a Temple being rebuilt. But the prophecy quickly moves far beyond Zechariah’s own generation.

The horizon expands to Israel’s future, Messiah’s coming, Jerusalem’s central role, Israel’s repentance, the judgment of the nations, and the establishment of the Kingdom.

Zechariah is a prophetic mountain range.

GOD HAS NOT FORGOTTEN JERUSALEM

The LORD declares:

“I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion.”
Zechariah 1:14

And again:

“I have returned to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem.”
Zechariah 8:3

Then comes one of the most beautiful pictures of restoration:
“Old men and old women shall again sit in the streets of Jerusalem... and the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing.”
Zechariah 8:4–5

Jeremiah gives the same assurance:

“If this fixed order departs from before Me... then shall the offspring of Israel cease from being a nation before Me forever.”
Jeremiah 31:35–36
And in that same chapter:

“I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.”
Jeremiah 31:31

Ezekiel adds:
“I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land.”
Ezekiel 36:24

Then comes spiritual renewal:

“I will sprinkle clean water on you... and I will give you a new heart.”
Ezekiel 36:25–26

Zechariah is not standing alone. He is part of a much larger prophetic chorus.

THE KING CAME HUMBLE

Zechariah foretold the arrival of Israel’s King:
“Behold, your king is coming to you, righteous and having salvation is He, humble and mounted on a donkey.”
Zechariah 9:9

Yeshua fulfilled that prophecy literally.

But the next verse looks beyond His humble arrival:
“His rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.”
Zechariah 9:10

The same Messiah who came in humility will rule in glory.

First the suffering.
Then the crown.

THE SHEPHERD WOULD BE STRUCK

Zechariah also foretold Messiah’s rejection:

“Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.”
Zechariah 13:7

Yeshua Himself applied this passage to what was about to happen to Him.

But Zechariah never leaves the story at rejection.
The Shepherd who was struck will return as King.

ISRAEL WILL LOOK UPON THE ONE THEY PIERCED

Zechariah 12 is one of the most remarkable passages in the Tanakh.

The LORD says:
“I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy.”
Zechariah 12:10

Then comes the stunning line:

“They will look on Me, on Him whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him.”
Recognition.

Repentance.

Grace.

Restoration.

And the next chapter follows with cleansing:

“On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness.”
Zechariah 13:1

Yeshua later spoke of a future day when Jerusalem would welcome Him:

“You will not see Me again, until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
Matthew 23:39

Paul says the same storyline continues in Romans 11:

“A partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.”
Romans 11:25

Then:

“And in this way all Israel will be saved.”
Romans 11:26
And why can we trust that promise?

“For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”
Romans 11:29

Israel’s story is not finished.

JERUSALEM WILL STAND AT THE CENTER OF WORLD EVENTS

Zechariah says:

“I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples.”
Zechariah 12:3

The nations gather against the city.

But Jerusalem is not only the center of conflict. It is also the center of the coming Kingdom.

Isaiah saw the same future:
“It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established.”
Isaiah 2:2

And:

“For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”
Isaiah 2:3

Jerusalem is not erased from the prophetic story.

It becomes central to it.

THE GOD OF ISRAEL WILL INTERVENE

Zechariah describes a future moment when the nations gather against Jerusalem.

Then:

“The LORD will go out and fight against those nations as when He fights on a day of battle.”
Zechariah 14:3
And then comes one of the most dramatic prophecies in Scripture:

“On that day His feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east.”
Zechariah 14:4

The mountain splits.
The geography is specific.

Jerusalem.
The Mount of Olives.
A real city.
A real mountain.
A real intervention.

Revelation 19 describes Messiah’s triumphant return as heaven opens and the King comes in righteousness and judgment.

Then Revelation 20 follows with His thousand-year reign.

The sequence is powerful:

The King returns.
His enemies are judged.
Israel is restored.
The nations come under His rule.
The Kingdom is established.

THE KING WILL REIGN OVER ALL THE EARTH

Zechariah reaches its climax here:

“The LORD will be King over all the earth.”
Zechariah 14:9

That is where history is heading.
Not toward the failure of God’s promises.

Not toward the abandonment of Israel.

Not toward the disappearance of Jerusalem from the prophetic plan.
But toward the reign of the King.

Living waters will flow from Jerusalem.

The nations will come to worship.

The city will be holy.

And:

“Everyone who survives of all the nations... shall go up year after year to worship the King.”
Zechariah 14:16

That is the breathtaking message of Zechariah.
The God of Israel remembers.

The Shepherd was struck.

The King is coming.
Jerusalem will see Him.

Israel will be restored.

The nations will worship.

And one day:
“The LORD will be King over all the earth.”
Zechariah 14:9

Every promise will stand.

THE KING IS COMING

The Bible does not end with the Beast on a throne.

It ends with the Messiah reigning.

That distinction matters.

When people hear “end times,” they often think first about Antichrist, war, judgment, Armageddon, or the Tribulation.

Those events are real and significant.

But they are not the destination of biblical prophecy.

The destination is the Kingdom.

From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture is moving toward a day when the rightful King will rule the earth in righteousness.

The King is coming.

Daniel saw it centuries before Messiah’s first coming:

“The God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed.”
Daniel 2:44

Daniel watched kingdom after kingdom rise and fall.

Babylon rose.

Persia rose.

Greece rose.

Rome rose.

Human rulers appeared powerful for a season, but every empire eventually passed away.

Then Daniel saw something entirely different.

A Kingdom established by God Himself.

A Kingdom that would never be conquered.

A Kingdom that would never be transferred to another people.

A Kingdom that would endure.

History is not moving toward the permanent triumph of human government.

It is moving toward the Kingdom of God.

The prophets saw the King reigning from Zion

Isaiah did not merely see people becoming more spiritual.

He saw the nations coming to Jerusalem:

“For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of YHWH from Jerusalem.”
Isaiah 2:3

He saw a world transformed under Messiah’s righteous rule.

He saw justice.

He saw peace among the nations.

He saw the earth filled with the knowledge of YHWH.

Habakkuk declared:

“The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of YHWH, as the waters cover the sea.”
Habakkuk 2:14

Zechariah saw the same future:

“YHWH shall be King over all the earth.”
Zechariah 14:9

These promises are not vague.

They point to a real King, a real Jerusalem, real nations, and a real reign.

The King who was rejected will return
This is one of the most remarkable threads running through Scripture.

The Messiah would first be rejected (Isaiah 53:3).

Zechariah foretold the piercing of the One whom Israel would one day mourn (Zechariah 12:10).

The Psalms spoke of the rejected stone becoming the cornerstone (Psalm 118:22).

But rejection would not be the end of the story.

The King who was rejected in Jerusalem will return to Jerusalem as King.

Zechariah says His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 14:4).

The nations will gather.

YHWH will intervene.

And Jerusalem, so often the center of conflict, will become the center of Messiah’s righteous rule.

That makes Messiah’s words especially powerful:

“You shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’”
Matthew 23:39

There is a future for Israel in God’s prophetic plan (Romans 11:25–27).

The covenants have not been forgotten.

The promises have not expired.

YHWH does not abandon what He has sworn to accomplish.

The Kingdom is bigger than the Tribulation

The Tribulation gets enormous attention in prophecy discussions, but Scripture does not leave us staring at judgment.

Judgment clears the way for the King.

The Beast will have his brief hour.

The nations will rage.

Armies will gather.

Babylon will fall.

But none of those things gets the final word.

The King gets the final word.

Revelation 19 shows Messiah returning in glory.

Revelation 20 shows Him reigning.

The prophets show the nations coming to worship.

Isaiah shows righteousness flowing from Zion.

Zechariah shows the nations going up to Jerusalem to worship the King (Zechariah 14:16).

Daniel shows His Kingdom overcoming every rival kingdom.

This is the biblical trajectory.

Not chaos forever.

Not rebellion forever.

Not Satan ruling forever.

Not human kingdoms stumbling endlessly through history.

A throne. A King. A REAL Kingdom.

The entire Bible has been moving toward this

The story begins with humanity losing dominion through rebellion.

It moves through Abraham and the promise of blessing to the nations.

It continues through Israel, the Davidic throne, the prophets, and the promise of a coming Son of David.

The Messiah comes.

He is rejected.

He rises.

He ascends.

And Scripture tells us He will come again (Acts 1:9–11).

Not merely to rescue His people from earth.

Not merely to defeat evil.

But to reign.

Psalm 2 anticipated it:

“Yet I have set My King on My holy hill of Zion.”

The nations may rage.

Kings may resist.

Human rulers may imagine that history belongs to them.

But heaven has already declared who the King is.

The King is coming.

The promises will stand.

Israel will be restored.

Jerusalem will know her King.

The nations will come before Him.

Righteousness will characterize His rule.

The knowledge of YHWH will fill the earth.

And every kingdom built by man will eventually give way to the Kingdom established by God.

Then Revelation gives us the great declaration toward which all history is moving:

“The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever.”
Revelation 11:15

That is where prophecy is headed.

Not toward the triumph of Antichrist.

Toward the triumph of Messiah.

Not toward the failure of God’s promises.

Toward their fulfillment.

Not toward an empty throne in Jerusalem.

Toward the reign of the Son of David.

The King is coming.

And the King will have His Kingdom.

Your own half-brother, a devout Muslim, still advocates slavery himself, even though Muslims of Arabic descent refer to black Muslims as "pug-nosed slaves." Says a lot about what the Muslim world really thinks of your family's "rich Islamic heritage," doesn't it, Mr. Obama?

Where were Muslims during the Civil Rights era of this country?

Not present.

There are no pictures or media accounts of Muslims walking side by side with Martin Luther King, Jr. or helping to advance the cause of Civil Rights.

Where were Muslims during this country's Women's Suffrage era?

Again, not present. In fact, devout Muslims demand that women are subservient to men in the Islamic culture. So much so that they are often beaten for not wearing the 'hijab' or for talking to a man who is not a direct family member or their husband. Yep, the Muslims are all for women's rights, aren't they?

Where were Muslims during World War II?

They were aligned with Adolf Hitler. The Muslim grand mufti himself met with Adolf Hitler, reviewed the troops, and accepted support from the Nazi's in killing Jews.

Finally, Mr. Obama, where were Muslims on Sept. 11th, 2001?

If they weren't flying planes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, or a field in Pennsylvania, killing nearly 3,000 people on our own soil, they were rejoicing in the Middle East. No one can dispute the pictures shown from all parts of the Muslim world celebrating on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and other cable news networks that day. Strangely, the very "moderate" Muslims whose asses you bent over backward to kiss in Cairo, Egypt on June 4th were stone cold silent post 9-11. To many Americans, their silence has meant approval for the acts of that day.

And THAT, Mr. Obama, is the "rich heritage" Muslims have here in America ...

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to mention the Barbary Pirates. They were Muslims.

Procter & Gamble made soap. In 1911 they took an ingredient they had developed for soap, put it in a tin, and sold it to American women as food.

The ingredient was cottonseed oil. Cotton seed was what the mill threw away. It rotted in heaps by the roadside. The raw seed poisons pigs. The oil comes out red, bitter and stinking, and its other buyers made roofing tar and explosives.

P&G bought the mills, hardened the oil with hydrogen gas to make cheaper soap, and noticed that what came out of the vat looked exactly like lard.

So they called it Crisco, and they called it pure. Modern. Clean. Nothing like the dirty old butter and lard your mother used.

They gave away cookbooks with Crisco in every recipe. They found a rabbi to announce that the Hebrew race had been waiting 4,000 years for it.

Crisco launched in 1911. The first heart attack in the American medical literature was described in 1912.

Over the next 40 years Americans ate less and less butter, more and more of what was in P&G's tin, and heart disease became the biggest killer in the country.

Butter had an alibi. What P&G needed was somebody official to ignore it.

In 1948 the American Heart Association was a small club of doctors with no money. P&G's hit radio show ran a contest for them. Listeners posted in $1.75 million, and the club became the national authority on the human heart overnight.

In 1960 P&G launched Crisco Oil.

In 1961 the American Heart Association told the nation to swap butter for vegetable oil.

That advice is still on your doctor's wall.

Years later it came out that hardening the oil made trans fats, and trans fats were killing people. The industry pinned everything on that one word, changed the recipe, and declared margarine safe.

It was never only the trans fat. When doctors in Sydney moved heart patients off butter and onto plain safflower oil, more of them died. When Minnesota ran the biggest trial of all, on corn oil, the old people on the oil died faster. That result went into a basement for 40 years.

The problem is the oil. It is an industrial fat, washed out of seeds with a petrol solvent, bleached, and deodorised so you cannot smell what it is. It goes rancid in the bottle, in the fryer and in you, and it sits in your body fat for years. Americans now carry more than twice as much of it as their grandparents did.

P&G sold Crisco in 2002 and walked away.

The American Heart Association still sells its red tick to bottles of seed oil, for a fee.

Butter is cream, shaken. It has never once needed a radio show.

I have purchased and enjoyed your products for years, which is why I was extremely disappointed to learn that the majority of your cheeses are now Halal certified.

As a Christian, I have deeply held religious convictions about the food I purchase and bring into my home. I respect that Muslim consumers may want Halal-certified products available to them, and I have absolutely no objection to grocery stores carrying Halal products or having dedicated Halal sections. People should be able to purchase food that aligns with their religious beliefs.

But my faith matters too. Because of my Christian convictions, I will not knowingly consume food that I believe has been prayed over, blessed in the name of another faith, or offered or sacrificed in connection with worship of any god other than the Lord and Savior I believe in.

I should have the same freedom to make that choice.

When a major mainstream brand chooses to place religious certification across a large portion of its regular product line, my choice becomes whether to accept that certification or stop purchasing those products. For me, the answer is simple. I will choose another brand.

I would encourage Tillamook to consider consumers of other faiths when making decisions like this and to make religious certification clear and transparent so every customer can make an informed choice according to his or her own conscience.

AND THIS IS ALSO A MESSAGE TO EVERY OTHER MAJOR FOOD BRAND WATCHING THIS TREND: If you choose to put Halal certification across your regular product lines rather than offering Halal-certified alternatives, understand that some Christian consumers will respond by no longer purchasing those products. If you put it across your entire brand, I WILL BOYCOTT the entire brand.

I also encourage major grocery stores to consider dedicated Halal sections, just as they have Kosher and international sections, rather than integrating Halal-certified products throughout the store. Give everyone a clear choice.

Muslim consumers have the right to choose Halal.

Christian consumers have the right to choose not to.

That choice deserves respect too!

At the moment Jesus died, three of the four Gospels stop describing Golgotha and cut, without warning, to a scene half a mile away, inside the temple. Matthew, Mark, and Luke each record it with almost the same words: the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. No one on the hill could have seen it. It happened behind walls, in a place only priests could enter. And yet the Gospel writers considered it so important that they interrupt the death of the Son of God to tell you about a piece of fabric.

To understand why, you have to understand the veil. God's instructions for it go back to Exodus: a curtain of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen, with cherubim woven into it, hung to divide the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place, the Holy of Holies, the room where the presence of God dwelt above the ark. The cherubim were not decoration. The last time cherubim stood as a barrier in Scripture was at the gate of Eden, with a flaming sword, after Adam and Eve were driven out. The veil was Eden's gate, rebuilt in cloth. It said one thing: you cannot come in here.

By Jesus' day, the temple was Herod's vast rebuilt structure, and the curtain matched its scale. Josephus, the first-century Jewish historian, describes the temple's great veil as a Babylonian tapestry of blue, scarlet, purple, and linen, embroidered with a panorama of the heavens, an enormous hanging some sixty feet high. Later rabbinic tradition, recorded in the Mishnah, claims the veil was a handbreadth thick, woven from seventy-two cords each of twenty-four strands, and that it took three hundred priests to immerse it when it needed cleaning. Those numbers are probably rabbinic exaggeration, and it is honest to say so. But even discounting them, we are describing something the size of a building's wall, thick, heavy, and woven by expert hands. It was not a bedsheet. No man could tear it. And Mark is precise: it tore from top to bottom. From the top, sixty feet up, where no hand could reach, downward. Whatever tore the veil did so from God's side of it.

Now consider who was allowed past that curtain. One man. Once a year. On the Day of Atonement, the high priest, and only the high priest, passed through the veil into the Holy of Holies carrying the blood of a sacrifice, to sprinkle it before God for the sins of the nation. Every other day of the year, every other person alive, was kept out on pain of death. The high priest of the year AD 30 was Caiaphas, the man whose bones now lie in a museum drawer. That was the whole system: one mediator, one day, one room, and a curtain that stood every other hour of every other day announcing that God was here and you were not permitted to approach.

Then, at three in the afternoon on a Friday outside the city, Jesus cried out, "It is finished," and breathed His last. And in the temple, in the middle of the afternoon sacrifice, with priests at their duties, the barrier ripped open from the top down, and the Holy of Holies stood exposed to anyone standing in the Holy Place. For the first time since Sinai, a human being could look straight into the place where God dwelt, and nothing stood in the way.

The letter to the Hebrews, written to Jewish Christians who knew the temple intimately, explains what the Gospels only show. It calls the old system a shadow and says the high priest entering once a year with the blood of animals was pointing forward to something. Then it says this: "We have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh." Read that slowly. The curtain is His flesh. When His body was torn on the cross, the veil was torn in the temple, because they were the same barrier being removed by the same death. The high priest brought blood into the Holy of Holies once a year, and had to come back next year. Jesus, Hebrews says, entered once for all, with His own blood, and then did something no high priest ever did: He sat down. There was no more work to do.

There is a strange witness to that afternoon from an unexpected source. The Talmud, the vast collection of rabbinic writings compiled centuries later, records that "forty years before the destruction of the temple" a series of ominous things began happening in the sanctuary: the lot for the LORD on the Day of Atonement stopped coming up in the priest's right hand, the crimson thread that was supposed to turn white as a sign of forgiveness stopped turning white, the westernmost lamp of the menorah kept going out, and the great temple doors began opening on their own at night, so that a leading rabbi rebuked them, warning that they were foretelling the temple's destruction. The temple was destroyed in AD 70. Forty years before is the year 30, the year of the crucifixion. This is a rabbinic source, not a Christian one, written by men who did not believe in Jesus and drew no connection to Him. It should be handled carefully, since the Talmud was written down long after the events. But according to Judaism's own memory, from that year onward, the signs of atonement in the temple stopped working, and no one could say why.

The torn veil pointed two directions at once. It announced that the way to God was open. It also announced that the temple's purpose was finished. Within a generation, in AD 70, Roman legions burned the building to the ground, exactly as Jesus had wept and warned it would be, and not one stone was left on another. There has been no veil, no Holy of Holies, no Day of Atonement sacrifice since. The system that ended on that Friday afternoon was dismantled by history forty years later, and it has never returned. What replaced it is a man, seated at the right hand of God, and a door that does not close.

People think that the cross is where a good teacher was killed by his enemies. But at the instant of His death, the one room on earth that God had walled off from humanity was flung open from the inside. Nobody stormed the temple. Nobody broke down the door. God tore the curtain Himself, and He tore it downward, toward us.

This is what it means for you. There is no longer a room you cannot enter and no priest you must go through. The curtain that separated you from God did not wear thin over time; it was ripped in half by His own hand, at the cost of His own Son's body. Hebrews draws the conclusion for you: "Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace." Not creep near. Not earn your way near. Draw near, with confidence, because the way is open and it is never going to close again.

The veil is torn. Walk in.

Jesus is the great High Priest who opened the way, once for all. Thank You, Jesus.
