On 14 May 1770, Marie-Antoinette, Archduchess of Austria, and her husband, the Dauphin, the future Louis XVI, met for the first time at the Château de Compiègne.
Arriving from Vienna, the young woman, then aged 15, was welcomed by King Louis XV.

A quaint, yellow palace in the midst of a sprawling green landscape. This retreat was built by Leopold III, Duke of Anhalt-Dessau, for his wife Princess Louise of Brandenburg-Schwedt; hence the name Luisium.
