تشرح هذه الآية باختصار سبب الصراع بين البشر، وهو الحسد والطمع والرغبة في امتلاك ما هو ليس حق لنا.. حين نرغب بما ليس لنا تبدأ دائرة الشرّ بالتشكل والتي غالباً ما تنتهي باقتتال البشر بعضهم مع بعض..
الآية تحذير تطلقه المسيحية من عاقبة الجشع، ولو دققنا قليلاً لوجدنا أنّ كل حرب عرفتها البشرية قد بدأت منه وانتهت بإزهاق أرواح بريئة لا ذنب لها كما يحصل اليوم في غزة..
وهو تذكير لكل مؤمن بأن لا شيء في الأرض يست��ق أن نعيشها في اقتتال وخوف مستمر لعلّ التذكير بذلك ينفع، ولعل المأساة تقف.
