Administration after administration, women and people with disabilities have been just the furniture, to be sat on by men.

On 30 June 2026, the High Court of Kenya at Malindi ruled that the composition of William Ruto’s Cabinet violated the two-thirds gender principle under Article 27(8) of our Constitution.

The Court directed the President to make Cabinet appointments that comply with this constitutional requirement within 120 days. 100 days was Wednesday 28 October 2026, and you guessed it - no change.

The constitution also requires at least 5% of appointments be held by persons with disabilities, and you guessed it - no change.

If women and persons with disabilities must continue fighting for space in leadership, even when the Constitution guarantees it, then what is the point of having these constitutional provisions? It is not pick and choose. #VIP
