November 1996: The landmark final report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples is released. Following the broadest consultation process of its time with Indigenous people, the five-volume, 4,000-page report set out a visionary 20-year plan to give life to First Nations rights and rebuild the nation-to-nation relationship. Today, very few of the 440 recommendations have been implemented. First Nations continue to push forward to have their rights fully recognized. #NIHM2026
