🔸This generation of African leaders is fickle, unstrategic and uninspiring.

When Robert Mugabe decided to “take back the land,” they clapped and cheered him on. They ignored the voice and plight of the masses. Behind Mugabe’s back, they were laughing at him, welcoming Zimbabwean commercial farmers to their countries and sniggering how they would “never become like Zimbabwe.”

None of them, except President Ian Khama, had the courage to hold Mugabe accountable for his bad governance, economic mismanagement and human rights abuses. If anything, most capitalized on Zimbabwe’s decline - presenting alternatives for international businesses and talented Zimbabweans that were leaving in their droves.

The moral of the story is - there is a huge disconnect between what African leaders “preach” in the halls of the African Union, the United Nations and other international platforms and what they practise. Recent events show that the Continent is more divided than ever. States will do what best suits them individually. There is no coherent articulation of an African vision to take the continent forward, no unity of purpose and no bold collective leadership towards translating the vast resources of the Continent into improved outcomes for the people.

Where we once had African leaders who would unite to defend each other against foreign oppressors, we now have a toxic mix of each man for himself, turn a blind eye to a neighbour’s abuse of its people and selfish undercutting that prioritizes narrow aims over a big idea that could position Africa as the super power it could be if there was ethical, competent leadership to harness the beautiful, rich land that Africa is on paper.

Some will ignore wars rage in Sudan and Congo while chasing passion projects abroad, others are silent when one of our own is bullied and ostracized, others sign peace deals between African nations that are cobbled together on foreign lands that prioritize their own interests over those of Africa, others jump when summoned by overseas powers to discuss the African agenda, others are corrupted while smarter nations capitalize on the shortermism to exploit our resources, others congratulate a murderous dictator for stealing an election, others join former colonizers in undercutting their neighbours, others establish dodgy military bases in arms with foreign powers while others loot and drink champagne while their people wallow in extreme poverty. Young people across the board are repressed, tortured and killed for demanding a better society because what we have now is not working.

These leaders have missed the opportunity to champion an African Renaissance and instead are superintending over a Great Regression.

It’s a mess.

We need new leaders.🇿🇼

Nelson Chamisa makes it look easy because he is a NATURAL leader, a charismatic personality, a calm and mature temperament, an intelligent and sharp mind, and a person who has GENUINE care and love for the masses.
And people see that sincerity and are drawn to him.

And you looked at him, saw all of this, and thought, “I can do that better.” 🤔

You looked at your big social media following and mistook it for mass-appeal and inherent popularity. 🤷🏾‍♂️

And you went to twitter and announced that you were starting something bigger and better. 🚀
But you quickly found out the naked TRUTH.

A large number of those followers that boost your gargantuan ego - are those that relate to your love of reggae, your bar of expensive booze, your rudeness and drama, and your mbinga-like flaunting and boasting about your wealth… 🫴🏾☑️

Platoons of impressionable young men who embrace you as their mentoring messiah and WANT the type of life that you depict on social media, and defend you religiously as such. 👑⚔️

They make up social media numbers - yes, but POLITICALLY, they are worthless.
Because their passion does not extend beyond your celebrity appeal. 🤷🏾‍♂️

The irony is that you have abandoned your REAL influence.
Those many thousands (like ME) that once-upon-a-time loved, supported and admired you:

▪️ for your stances against corruption
▪️ for standing with the people
▪️ for your courage against the regime,
▪️ for the genuine awards you received for your valour and your (once) journalistic skills,
▪️ for the high quality of leader you once were – that towering figure of inspiration…

But you have since blocked most of those people as you turned the tide towards malice.
You gathered instead a following of sycophants and defenders of your newfound love of attacking democrats. 🙄
People willing to overlook the glaring red flags, evidencing that you were now attacking leaders of the authentic opposition MORE than you attack the regime!! 👀

The Hopewell we once admired is long GONE. Replaced in the last few years by a bitter, jealous specter of oddity...

Someone who harbours political ambitions but doesn’t have the qualities required for statecraft.
And so he becomes obsessed with pointing fingers, blame and ire towards they that ARE, what HE cannot be.
Under the guise of being a “watchdog”. 😒

A political jezebel who uses their whorish influence to push division, and exists NOW to turn people away from the authentic opposition.

What a disappointment you have turned out to be. 😔

The Big Political Calls Hopewell Got Wrong & Political Disingenuity / Pretending To Support Chamisa!

Making documentaries and political analysis & commentary are like night & day.

In any other country, Hopewell would probably have just a few thousand followers after the big political calls that he got spectacularly wrong, which are listed below:

a. Supporting the coup in November 2017. As a multi-award winning journalist who is Harvard & Oxford University educated & worked for the BBC, ITV & CNN - it's clear that he was wrong in supporting the coup.

When asked, his excuse is that the opposition also supported it - which amounts to intellectual poverty for one so educated.

The likes of the late Magaisa were ridiculed for opposing the coup and accused of writing "compositions" - something that he regularly now accuses me of doing.

b. Actively supporting the coup government after it had stolen elections in 2018 & turning a blind eye to its excesses.

Whereas most Zimbabweans simply supported the coup out of political desperation - of wanting to see the back of long time dictator Robert Mugabe -

Hopewell went further & beyond - choosing to actively work effectively as the regime's mouthpiece / PR machine on social media, well before Varakashi's conception.

He did this for many years after the coup, actively pushing back against credible & objective criticisms against the regime & sometimes divulging information some of which endangered the lives opposition activists.

We are talking about a well informed, well read & exposed journalist here deliberately choosing to actively work on the side of a ruthless dictatorship & achieving satisfaction from such!

c. Pretending to support Chamisa while fiercely criticising him in the name of positive criticism.

There are many examples of Hopewell doing this, e.g. declaring that "the opposition was as dead as a dodo" on the eve of the August 2023 sham election, publishing falsehoods to the effect that there was no candidate fielded in Chimanimani due to Chamisa's incompetence, attacking Chamisa over the Bulawayo 12 and his economic manifesto / policy, the Biti fiasco, V11s soon after the election, structures & constitution, absence of "collective leadership" & the Tshabangu saga, amongst others.

Can anyone show me solid, impeccable evidence of Hopewell consistently supporting CCC & Chamisa in the run up to the election or afterwards in such a manner as to inspire confidence that he was genuinely doing so?

The evidential trail shows that there is none. He just conveniently pretended to do so most likely for two reasons:
1. Penance - feeling shameful about how ED's despicable regime had turned out after he had so publicly & enthusiastically supported it -

Hopewell sought to redeem himself via public proclamation of a switch to Chamisa while deep down he had never warmed up to him & actually despised & remained contemptuous of him.

2. To scaffold his rabid criticism of Chamisa & hoodwink gullible opposition supporters through packaging it as "constructive criticism" to render it more palatable / acceptable.

Ever calculating, Hopewell reasoned that if he now criticised ED viscerally at the same time that he claimed to be constructively criticising Chamisa, some opposition supporters would swallow this on the premise that it was coming from a good place!

He has continued that subterfuge to this day.

d. Claiming that Tshabangu was a genuine party leader who was genuinely aggrieved & had the support of Senior MPs.

Hopewell effectively gave cover to ED's infiltration of CCC via Tshabangu. He maintained this charade for a long period, only to, in typical fashion, suddenly summersault into belatedly labelling him ED's proxy but without conceding that he had been astoundingly wrong for a very long time.

e. Attributing ED's infiltration of CCC by ED via Tshabangu to the absence of structures & a constitution - which he maintains to this day, despite the 2030 juggernaut now targeting the nation's own Constitution!

f. Not realising that Biti & Ncube had effectively been captured by ED via the PDP cabal - Mafume, Tshabangu, Phulu & others - he accused Chamisa of being allergic to collective leadership - not knowing that Chamisa had sussed Biti & Ncube out.

When it eventually became clear that this had taken place, once again Hopewell never took responsibility / acknowledged his poor judgment, instead he simply pretended as if he had always been on the right side of that argument.

For long periods of time, a blinkered & tunnel visioned Hopewell woefully failed to link the 2030 agenda to the convulsions in CCC mainly because of his obsession with lumping every political ill in the opposition movement on Chamisa.

g. Recently, Hopewell & troll merchant Ali Naka made sensational allegations on X, claiming @nelsonchamisa had plundered campaign funds & taken bribes from the regime to enable the 2030 agenda to sail through & declaring that they had solid documentary evidence to back their clear defamatory claims but to this day none has been tendered.

Undeterred by his spectacular failure to dethrone Chamisa, recently Hopewell tried to roll his last dice by publicly appealing for Chamisa to "stand down" because he had failed. How ridiculous is that?

h. The GIE kindergarten saga - while on a fool's errand riding on a wave of his colossal ego, Hopewell proposed to convene a Government in Exile - with an X spaces event taking place, (with spooks no doubt in attendance).

In the run up to the event, this had been promoted as an antidote to Chamisa's alleged docility and ineffectiveness in challenging the regime.

No sooner had the regime announced that it considered his rank amateurish shenanigans as tantamount to treason that he did a U-turn & disingenuously tried to fashion it as a philanthropic entity!

At the time of writing this post, it fizzled into nothingness, and is currently marooned in a cul de sac, with none other than its chief proponent, Hopewell, now cowering here in the UK, from where, without any hint of hypocrisy, he regularly accuses Chamisa of docility and cowardice!

Conclusion
There is no single big call on the Zimbabwean political calendar that Hopewell Chin'ono has ever got right.

There is a clear mismatch between the huge following he commands & his monumental failures in reading the political currents in our body politic.

Whether it's spite, petty jealousy, inflated ego, hubris, or blinkers, the net result is the same, poor reading of the nation's political pulse, leading into calamitous & farcical misdiagnosis of the nation's political affairs combined with an unhealthy obsession with Nelson Chamisa - who any fair minded Zimbabwean should actually be sympathising with in light of the prevailing climate of rampant authoritarianism.

What Hopewell & Nelson Chamisa's critics fail to realise is that, even if he vacates the political scene today, their fortunes will still fail to gain traction dismally, simply due to their inability to connect with the grassroots organically.

That rare gift Chamisa has, which they treat with casual regard will always prove elusive to them! Now in his 50s & with a chequered past, Chin'ono allows his massive following on X to mislead him into thinking that he is political titan of note when he is simply a proverbial Grasshopper on the political calendar!

There is a worrying "coincidence" which seems to take place between Chin'ono's unwarranted & over the top attacks on Chamisa, and the regime's core interests being served, be it via distracting the public or bleeding political momentum - which ends up giving it respite.
