Fantastic Planet (1973) is psychedelic sci-fi like nothing else. Laloux & Topor animated the film using cutout techniques inspired by Czech stop-motion, giving every frame that dreamlike drift. A political allegory that still feels alien fifty years later

Here’s a new animated short in a hand-drawn retro sci-fi illustration style inspired by European graphic novels from the 70s and 80s.

This is analog futurism. Heavy machinery. Silent ships. Vast horizons. Technology that feels mechanical, imperfect, almost tired.

It blends Moebius-era European sci-fi with analog futurism and a melancholic cosmic atmosphere.

Once again, I used Midjourney for the concept art, Grok Imagine for the animations, Suno for the voice-over and soundtrack, and CapCut for the editing.

I think I’ve found a kind of magical workflow here, and the result feels hypnotic and fascinating, the kind of piece you want to watch again and again.
