⚡️ Guerilla Fighters in West Papua Are Facing Extermination by Indonesia's High-Tech Forces
The West Papua National Liberation Army has resisted counterinsurgency in the Star Mountains for decades. Drop Site spoke with guerilla leader Lamek Taplo a week before he was killed.

This dispatch from Kristo Langker comes from the mountains of West Papua, a part of the world we don’t typically cover, and it differs in another way too. We usually report from places shaped by the U.S. war machine. Here, the weapons are French and Chinese, but the structure is the same: the Indonesian government is using drones and helicopters to terrorize and displace West Papuans, in an imperial conflict rooted in a U.S.-backed mining project from the 1960s.
Indonesia has claimed the western half of New Guinea since the 1960s with U.S. support. For the past year, the Indonesian military has ramped up indiscriminate attacks on subsistence farming villages – particularly those that deny Indonesian rule.
The videos are well worth your time, with exclusive footage and interviews with a guerrilla group resisting drones and aircraft with bows and arrows.
🎥 Members of the Ngalum Kupel TPNPB, the armed wing of the West Papuan independence movement, celebrate after seizing an Indonesian military drone on September 28, 2025. (Video: Ngalum Kupel, TPNPB)
Lamek Taplo, Commander of the Ngalum Kupel West Papua National Liberation Army was killed by an Indonesian drone bombing yesterday, alongside three of his men, Ike Taplo age 22, Nalson Uopmabin age 17 and Benim Kalakmabin age 20. Later today we will publish his last interview.
New photos out of West Papua reveal an increasingly common tactic employed by Indonesia. The guerrillas are holding what appears to be a crashed DJI Mavic Enterprise 2 Drone, rigged up with a servo in order to drop Pindad hand grenades.
Indonesian military forces have escalated operations in Papua's highlands with aerial bombardments, destroying civilian homes and infrastructure in Puncak. Residents in Yahukimo have fled to forests. In Nduga, military demolished civilian buildings to construct bases. In Pegunungan Bintang, houses were burned and a church occupied. At least two civilians were killed. #UnlawfulKillings #HumanRights Read more: https://t.co/mbhLpbd6x7
Yulli Kalakmabin, a 28-year-old Papuan man, was shot dead by Indonesian military while travelling to visit family in Pegunungan Bintang #WestPapua. His body was left for two days before recovery. No warning was given to the unarmed civilian. Despite this clear human rights violation, authorities remain silent. The unlawful killing occurs amid intensified military operations in the region.
