Wowza! So many notable folks adding their voice to the chorus of support for #RankedChoiceVoting as the antidote to split votes & plurality winners! I’ll add this incredible stat that women hold 52% of seats on city councils elected with #RCV — that’s almost twice the norm!
A historic first: No state received an "F" on the #2024GenderParityIndex. Louisiana led the charge out of the bottom ranks, earning its first-ever "D" grade after eight consecutive years at the bottom. The state climbed to 45th place, a nearly six-point improvement from 2023.
Last year, voters elected Louisiana’s first woman Attorney General, Liz Murril, and the second woman Secretary of State, Nancy Landry, which made substantive gains in the Women Statewide Executive categories.
With a perfect score of an "A" and ranking second overall in the #2024GenderParityIndex, Maine continues to be a pioneer in women's leadership! Scoring 51.8 points and securing a second-place ranking, Maine implemented Ranked Choice Voting for the first time in November 2018.
The #2024GenderParityIndex reveals a troubling trend: 26 states now receive a failing "D" grade(10-24.9 points), an increase from 23 in 2023. Louisiana joined the "D" list, finally moving up to 45th place after eight consecutive years of scoring under 10 points. (A thread)
Between 2022 and 2023, Alaska moved from a D state, scoring 21 points, to a C state, scoring 32 points! Thanks to the narrow approval of Ranked-Choice Voting in 2020, Alaskans made history by electing their first woman to Congress and the first woman as Lieutenant Governor!
Ten states received a "C"(25-32.9 points) on the #2024GenderParityIndex. Alaska is the top "C" state, less than a point away from a "B" rating.

Maine continues to shine as a model state for gender parity, receiving an “A” since 2018 and coming in 2nd place! The state’s commitment to ranked-choice voting and the election of its first woman governor, Janet Mills, have paved the way for progress.
Twelve states earned a commendable "B" on the #2024GenderParityIndex. While not perfect, these states are making strides towards gender parity! Michigan leads the “B”(scoring 33-49.9) states with a score of just 0.5 points away from parity.
