A man asked me twenty one questions about a sandwich and I said yes to every one of them.

The American ahead of me had ordered in four seconds. "Turkey, provolone, toasted." Four seconds. I watched him the way you watch a swordsman you cannot beat.

Then it was my turn, and Marcus began.

White or wheat. Yes.

He looked up. He tried again, kindly, and I understood my error and chose. That was when the real trial started, because after the bread the offers do not stop. They arrive one after another, each one a small gift from a man holding a knife, and refusing a gift from the man preparing your food is not a thing I am able to do.

Lettuce. Yes. Tomato. Yes. Onion, yes. Cucumber, yes. Jalapeno, yes, though my throat tightened at the word.

Banana peppers.

My fingertips went cold. I did not know what a banana pepper was. But a man who has said yes eleven times cannot start asking questions at twelve.

Yes.

Fourteen vegetables. Three sauces. The sandwich stopped closing. It had stopped being food and become terrain.

Marcus wrapped it. The paper did not reach. He got a second sheet and taped the two together with the calm of a man building a boat.

Then he asked if I wanted it cut in half.

Yes.

He cut it. The two halves fell open in different directions, which he had clearly expected, because he caught one without looking.

Eleven dollars and forty cents. He handed it over with both hands, which he did not have to do, and which I noticed.

Understand what he did not do. He did not laugh at me. He did not correct me. He did not tell the line behind me what was happening at the front of it. He built exactly the thing I had asked for, he built it well, and he built it fast.

I ate it over two days.

I am there every Thursday now.

He does not ask me the twenty one questions anymore.

He sees me, he nods, and he starts building.

There is a sandwich in Ohio that is entirely my fault, and last week two people behind me ordered it by pointing.

CONTEXT: The ghost writer tapes were recorded seven years before Special Counsel Robert Hur concluded a jury would not convict President Biden because of his age and failing memory.

Hur found Biden wilfully retained and disclosed highly classified materials after his vice presidency, including government documents and personal notes/notebooks/notecards containing classified information about the Obama administration’s Afghanistan policy.

Some of these sensitive records were found by investigators in Biden’s garage, offices, and basement den.

As a senator, Biden apparently removed some classified materials from a secure facility known as a SCIF.

Unlawful retention of classified information is a potential federal crime, in additional to mishandling national defense information.

That is what Americans gave to charity yesterday. And the day before. And the day before that.

Giving USA released the figures last month. $617.20 billion in a single year. The first time American giving has ever crossed $600 billion.

Most of it is not corporations. In 2024 individuals alone gave $392 billion, about two thirds of the total. Church envelopes. Food banks. The GoFundMe for the neighbor with cancer.

And bequest giving rose almost 20 percent. People who knew they were dying signed papers to hand money to strangers they would never meet.

The world calls this country greedy.

Update: Luis Nino-Moncada, the Venezuelan illegal migrant believed to be linked to Tren de Aragua and who was involved in a Portland truck ramming attack on DHS agents, has pleaded guilty to felony depredation of government property.

Nino-Moncada was shot during the attack, prompting Portland officials to mobilize for a press conference to condemn DHS and ICE. They demanded federal officials leave Portland. Even local law enforcement expressed sympathy and support for the violent criminal and the Venezuelan gang prostitute who was in the car. Leftists rioted and attacked ICE after the shooting.

The far-left were able to mobilize to riot because the shooting was immediately leaked to far-left extremists by a @AMR_Social medical first responder. No one was held accountable by the city or AMR for sending internal information about the shooting to anti-government extremists.
