I've been reading this book about human evolution. It mentions a mutation in the 'FOXP2 gene', which is also known as "the language gene". A mutation in this gene separated modern humans from Neanderthals.

@ChrisSpeechie #Praat can also be used to analyse frequencies of speech sounds and distinguish between them.(Formants can provide info about place, manner and voicing of speech sounds). So you can decode a message without hearing it!
