just to let ppl know: Follow me on Bluesky. This account is barely if at all active. I just look and see artists plus moving communications there to make it easier.
This is just not a good platform anymore.

@UmbralBunz@Actually_Tina That was after the release of the game however. Not before. They only really did that cause ff7 was THAT popular. They wouldn't of made crisis core if 7 sold like the other entries
@UmbralBunz@Actually_Tina God its been years...can't keep track of all the various people -_-. Regardless it is still not helped how they were aiming for it
@UmbralBunz@Actually_Tina 7 also has the issue that sephiroth was supposed to be a villain ALONGSIDE Jenova but Jenova only shows up a handful of times as bosses and mutating Hojo midway through with the cells. Players forget Jenova was integral to the narrative due to Sephiroth on screen more
@UmbralBunz@Actually_Tina But it is still more cohesive when you play more and read it than what 15 has done to it's intended narrative that 15 had to put out a movie and OVA anime series before the game even came out so people could prepare for the story. They even bundled Kingsfield with copies of ff15
@UmbralBunz@Actually_Tina Age does not prevent judgement. There are people who are playing the older games even agreeing that ff3 is no substance. Same why I am free to compare a weak narrative like 15 to 16 as 15 was one of the lowest points in the franchise ever. You can't give it a pass cause dev hell
@UmbralBunz@Actually_Tina Also 10 was a complete tale, 12 was complete if you read between the lines and 14 while I personally think it is a mess as well, is still a straightforward narrative for the most part not counting sequels. 15 is not a low bar either. I think ff3 is the worst narrative period
@UmbralBunz@Actually_Tina However between ff15 and ff16 I still prefer 16's narrative as it is completed and not missing a lot vs the messy dev hell of 15 being reconstructed twice and having key characters tossed in the garbage or their intention turned to vaporware just to get it out.
@UmbralBunz@Actually_Tina They were going for a narrative that Ultima was no better than the wicked evils of man sort of breaking the chains of oppression (both being those in charge and Ultima as a 'God') but it just misses people a lot.
And once more: FFT did it much better with their Ultima
@Actually_Tina People just have a defensive opinion about older entries cause they were functional when they were young or seem more interesting without ever touching them.
@NeutralM99456@EdgesLara@Actually_Tina Oh don't forget there is a bug with the Ultima spell where it does almost nothing for damage even after leveling it up like other spells and that half the narrative beginning was in a short novela due to limitations.
@cheunart Most lalafell players are seeking a specific shortstack body type to be accurate to their idea...also adding more of a "mature" body to disconnect from the ingame design since the stigma comes with unfortunate consequences. Now if they looked like the Tarutaru? No issue really.
I’m actually a child online safety expert and was one of the pioneers in this space with Club Penguin and so I feel uniquely positioned to critique this.
The groomer problem is real but it’s also vastly overstated. The far larger issue we saw at Penguin was suicidality or reports of sexual abuse in the home.
There is no solution for lazy/bad parenting. You can implement all the ID laws you want but if parents are going to just hand kids their phones unlocked, those kids will have access to all the same things the parents have unfettered.
What I found is that these draconian safety laws actually make it harder to be an honest operator of kids apps because on one hand it’s so much legal risk and so much user friction that it simply becomes uninvestible as a business.
Parents will just lie to let their kids use the unfettered internet. For example, I have a friend who works in mobile gaming who has two kids, one above and one below the age limit but separated by just 2 yrs, and the two wanted to play and chat together on Roblox - which is reasonable. To do this, he just verified that his younger kid is old enough for the chat feature when he’s not.
This happens all the time and will happen with these laws to. How far do we want to go with this? Scan the face of the user in real-time to make sure it’s not a kid using the device? We could do that but it feels like a massive unwanted intrusion of privacy.
That’s how you know this law isn’t about kids. COPPA and GDPR-K and so forth already make it illegal to allow chat and other grooming vectors to kids.
What’s really being done here is trying to eliminate online anonymity. And this is a far bigger issue that goes to core speech rights because if you cannot criticize the govt anonymously and if wrong speech is a crime then it becomes easy to identify all the detractors of the govt in power, and ban, fine or jail them for speech crimes.
Starmer has already been doing this and he wants to do it at a much bigger scale. Starmer won’t even acknowledge the problem of actual grooming gangs in Britain’s neighborhoods but he’s worried about online grooming?
No he’s not, and this hypocrisy gives away the game. What he wants is to kill online anonymity so he can enforce censorship of his unpopular policies. No politician should have this power.
@k0smonewt@NotAmberBerries Well the major complaint side is that they don't want to waddle through the "boring" story bits to get to the good stuff. ARR is seen as the great filter. Some people i play with outright skip 80% of the story and rather listen to someone present it Nobbel style.
