Great interviews with Bee, Jane, and @ryanjbell about how the Pasadena community won a sweeping rent control and just cause victory at the ballot!

@queens_parents@ZohranKMamdani You people are so desperate. It’s not a crime to have a nice meal once in a while! And the fact that he can afford it thanks to rent control is a perfect argument for rent control. Money goes back into the local economy rather than in some out of town landlord’s pocket.
A furnished Bel Air home went on Zillow today for $29,500 / month. A few months ago, it was asking $15,900.
I called up the agent. She said she told her client to re-list the home after this week's L.A. fires.
"People are desperate," she said. "You can probably get good money."
BREAKING: State records show that State Sen. Toni Atkins & Assemblymember Buffy Wicks have received major contributions from the California Apartment Association.
Both oppose Prop 33, the Nov. measure that ends rent control restrictions in CA. The CAA also opposes Prop 33. 1/2
A recent campaign flier mailed to District 3 residents claims that Brandon said, “rent control is not the answer.” This is obviously only part of his statement, carefully edited to lie about Brandon’s actual commitments.
We set the record straight!

The vast majority of landlords will never understand the concept of fairness, but they will trot it out when tenants succeed in achieving the barest minimum of it.
If you’re wondering why the corporate press incl. WaPo and Forbes is back on its “speculation isn’t real and even if it was it wouldn’t matter because its just a supply issue” beat:
There is no housing crisis. The rental housing market is working exactly the way it is designed to work and benefits exactly the people it’s meant to benefit.

1 - One year ago today, dozens of tenants and allies from around Pasadena and the region made one last effort to inform our neighbors that there was an election that day and that rent control and eviction protections were on the ballot as Measure H.
At the end of the night…
"We're trying to just help people relocate and be able to afford to live in their community when they're displaced due to a decision that they didn't make..." [Board Chair Ryan Bell] said. "The goal is that if folks want to stay in Pasadena, then they should be able to do that."
The Pasadena Rental Housing Board at their Sept. 27 meeting approved regulations governing relocation assistance, going beyond the city’s existing tenant protections by covering more renters and increasing tenant benefits.

Last night we passed very strong relocation assistance for tenants displaced by no-fault evictions. It also includes tenants displaced by high rent increases (AGA+5%) in non-rent controlled units. #rentcontrol

Great coverage of the Phoenix 400 Tenant Association press conference on Wednesday by @ABC7.
Tenants are still waiting for @Caltech to confirm they will not be forcing anyone to leave.

The tenants union is organizing with the tenants at the Phoenix 400 Tenant Association (400 S Mentor) and support their demands.
Stay tuned for details of an action this week!

We are not anti-development. We are anti-gentrification. We want development that benefits the community, not displaces it. We want development that creates affordable/public housing, not investment condos. We want development that respects the environment, not destroys it. 🌎
