One of the reasons why a lot of people haven't gotten a remote job yet is because they don't want it badly enough.
I know that's not easy to hear, but it's a pattern I've noticed over and over again.
You see a job announcement that is a perfect fit for your experience, and instead of applying immediately, you screenshot it and tell yourself you'll do it later. You come across a thread explaining exactly how to optimise your CV or improve your applications, and you bookmark it without ever reading it again. And at the end of the day, you spend more time collecting opportunities than actually pursuing them.
People from our part of the world are already at a disadvantage when competing for global remote roles, hence we often have to work twice as hard to get half the attention. If you're going to leave everything to luck on top of that, you're making an already difficult journey even harder.
Wake up and smell the coffee.
If someone shares a spreadsheet with 500 companies hiring remotely, go through all 500 if that's what it takes. Visit every careers page, submit the applications, tailor your CV where necessary, and follow up where you can. Itโs difficult, repetitive, and mentally exhausting, I know. But it is doable.
And the beautiful thing is that you don't need all 500 companies to hire you. You only need one company to say yes.
One application can change your income, one interview can change your career, and one offer can change your life.
Lock in. The people getting hired aren't always the smartest or the luckiest. More often than not, they're the ones who kept showing up long after everyone else stopped applying.
A moving man will surely meet his luck. Kwechiri.
This interview was from 2007 and was translated into English. Messiโs own mother, the person who knows him best said that he has always been a cheat and has always been mischievous. And this is the same midget people keep defending?
