Why Does Peter Preach Repentance + Baptism (Acts 2:38)
While Paul Preaches Faith Alone (Romans 3:28)?

Let’s be honest — if the Bible is one book from God (and it is!), then why do we find two very different salvation messages being preached by two apostles who both served the same Lord?

The answer lies in understanding how to rightly divide the Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2:15). 📖

🪔 PETER’S MESSAGE — “Repent and Be Baptized” (Acts 2:38)

📖 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins...”

At Pentecost, Peter was speaking to Israel — not to the Body of Christ.
👉 His audience was the men of Israel (Acts 2:22, 36).
👉 His message was still part of the prophetic kingdom program that had been proclaimed “since the world began” (Acts 3:21).

For Israel, repentance and baptism were necessary steps of national restoration.
They had crucified their Messiah (Acts 2:36), and Peter’s command was to repent so that Christ could return and bring the long-promised kingdom on earth (Acts 3:19–20).

💧 Baptism wasn’t just a symbol; it was a requirement under the kingdom gospel:

“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” (Mark 16:16)
“John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.” (Mark 1:4)

Peter’s gospel required faith in Jesus as the Messiah, repentance, and water baptism — because salvation was tied to Israel’s repentance and their covenant promises (Luke 1:68–75; Acts 2:38–40).

✝️ PAUL’S MESSAGE — “Faith Alone in Christ Alone” (Romans 3:28)

📖 “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.”

When the risen Christ revealed Himself to Paul (Acts 9), He gave him a new dispensation — the revelation of the mystery (Ephesians 3:2–9).
Paul was sent to all nations, not just Israel (Romans 11:13; Galatians 2:7–9).

Under grace:

• There’s no water requirement for salvation (1 Corinthians 1:17)

• There’s no law-keeping or ritual observance (Romans 6:14)

• There’s no national covenant — only personal faith in Christ’s finished work on the cross (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)

Paul’s message is clear and exclusive to this dispensation:

💡 “By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God — not of works...” (Ephesians 2:8–9)

He preached “the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24), centered not on Israel’s kingdom hope, but on a heavenly calling — the Body of Christ (Colossians 1:5).

🔍 SAME JESUS — DIFFERENT PROGRAMS

It’s not that Peter was wrong and Paul was right — it’s that they were preaching in different dispensations.
God’s message changed when His program changed. ⚙️

Audience: All Nations
Message: Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ
Basis of Salvation: Gospel of Grace (Acts 16:31)

🔥 Two apostles. Two audiences. Two messages — but one Savior, revealed in His proper time through the dispensation of grace.

Under Peter’s gospel — Israel’s prophetic hope was in the Messiah’s reign on earth 🌍
Under Paul’s gospel — our hope is in the heavenly calling of the Body of Christ ☁️

@Keneetia The wrath of God has not yet come and He is not dealing with nations as He did in times past, but in this dispensation of grace, 'God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them' (2Cor5:19a).
