I actually have thought about this a little.

I think Chance and Elliot got together after knowing each other for a few months where Chance presented the more emotional side to him.

And Elliot, thinking he had the stability he needs (and a savior complex) decides to ask him out

My paycheck headcanon is that Chance and Elliot used to date and they broke up due to the fact Chance was basically crazy and wasn’t listening to Elliot and his concerns so when forsaken happened it’s mad awkward for the both of them.

And then comes to Elliot door at like 4 am apologizing and calling him petnames.

All of this leads to Elliot breaking up with Chance and Chance feeling emotionally impacted. Which leads him further down because Elliot would promise to help him and stuff.

Basically toxic
