அதற்கெதிராக சமூக வலைத்தளங்களிலும் நாளை மறுதினம் கிளிநொச்சியில் மக்கள் ஒன்றுபட்டதாகவும் எதிர்ப்பை வெளிப்படுத்து��தோடு இது நின்றுவிடாமல்,
ஏன் PTA எனப்படும் பயங்கரவாதத் தடைச் சட்டம் நீக்கப்பட்டே ஆகவேண்டும் என்பதை மீண்டும் வலியுறுத்தக் கிடைத்த ஒரு வாய்ப்பாக(வும்) சங்கீதனின் கைது விவகாரத்தை நாம் நோக்கவேண்டும்.

இப்போது இல்லாமலாக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதாக இலங்கை அரசே அறிவித்துள்ள ஓர் அமைப்பை மீளுருவாக்கம் செய்ய முயன்றதாகவே PTA அவர் மீது பிரயோகிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.
PTA இதற்கு ஏன் பயன்படுத்தக்கூடாது என்று நீதிமன்றில் சட்டத்தரணி சயந்தன் வாதத்தை முன்வைத்திருக்கிறார்.
பயங்கரவாதத் தடைச் சட்டத்துக்கு கீழான குற்றமல்ல (அவன் அதைப் பாடினான் , தரப்பட்ட சுதந்திரத்தை மீறினான் என்றெல்லாம் நடுநிலை நியாயம் பேசுவோர் கொஞ்சம் தள்ளியே நிற்க) என்ற வாதத்தை நீதிமன்றில் முன்வைத்திருப்பதோடு இப்போது அடிப்படை உரிமை மீறல் ம��ுவும் உயர்நீதிமன்றில் தாக்கல் செய்யப்படவிருப்பதாக அறியவருகிறது.
முயற்சிகளில் முன்னிற்கும் சட்டத்தரணிகள் சுமந்திரன், சயந்தன், பெனிஸ்லஸ் ஆகியோர் நன்றிக்குரியோர்.

எனவே சட்டத்தினால் இந்த விடயத்தை வெற்றிகொள்வது எதிர்காலத்தில் எம் பலர் மீதும் PTA இந்த அரசாங்கத்தினால் பிரயோகிக்கப்படுவதை நாம் தடுப்பதற்கான முயற்சியை ஆரம்பிக்கலாம்.
PTA நீக்கப்படாதவிடத்து அந்த ஆபத்தை சட்டத்தின் துணையோடே எதிர்கொள்வது முக்கியம்.

சொல்லிசைக் கலைஞனின் விடுதலையிலிருந்து ஆரம்பிப்போம்.

Unfair match termination and result based on coin toss raises concerns about discrimination against Northern Province cricket team.

The National Sports Festival 2024 witnessed a controversial ending to the match between the Northern Province and North Western Province cricket teams. This match, played at Bandaragama, marked the first introduction of hard ball cricket in the NSF games. While Sri Lanka Cricket facilitated the event upon Sports Minister Harin Fernando's request, the organization was handled by the Sports Ministry.

Due to rain, the match was shortened to five overs per side. However, the on-field umpires, Mr. Sanath de Alwis and Mr. Manjula Kumara, implemented unusual rules, limiting bowlers to a maximum of two overs and establishing a two-over powerplay.

The Northern Province team appeared poised for victory. Chasing 59 runs in five overs, they reached 59/1 in 3.5 overs, requiring just one run from the remaining seven balls. However, despite a slight drizzle (video evidence attached), the match was abruptly halted by the umpires.

This decision raises serious concerns about fairness. Sports Ministry officials previously stated rain-interrupted matches would be decided by a coin toss. While another Northern Province team (ladies) had their match abandoned without a single ball bowled, the situation here was entirely different. With just one run needed and nine wickets in hand, victory for the Northern Province team seemed clear.

This outcome appears to be a blatant act of discrimination. Despite pleas from the Northern Province team's manager, coach, and captain, the umpires and Sports Ministry officials opted for a coin toss, which ultimately favored the North Western Province team. Additionally, the Northern Province team alleges delaying tactics by their opponents, while the umpires strictly enforced a 21-minute window for both teams to complete their five overs.

This incident cannot be ignored. The perception of discrimination against the Northern Province team is deeply concerning. Tamil-speaking communities already express frustration regarding player selections and lack of support for cricket infrastructure in their areas. This incident further fuels their discouragement.

July is a month etched with dark memories for Sri Lanka. We cannot afford another event in July that alienates Tamil people and sports enthusiasts from supporting the national team.

Call to Action:

We urge Sports Minister @fernandoharin to launch an investigation into this matter and ensure justice is served for the Northern Province team.
While @OfficialSLC was not directly involved, we urge them to take note of these umpires' actions for future reference.
