@thrillhouse01@cremieuxrecueil Housing, healthcare, childcare, and education are definitely included in CPI. According to Grok, together they make up about 55% of the index.
@PollTracker2024 The only reason anyone pulls out of a campaign once they've got a taste for power is they realise they can't win. He's got no leverage and he knows it or he wouldn't be talking about pulling out at all.
A lot of us fear the UK will be forced to try this on its current trajectory.
The UK just does not have the pull that the US does. I paid US tax for 30 years as a UK resident dual national but, now a US resident, would give up my UK citizenship in a heartbeat if the UK tried it.
@PolitlcsUK@Telegraph The grey hound has caught the rabbit...
These people work so hard to get this job but when they get in: nothing, except more nonsensical virtue signalling.
The transition from Starmer should be seamless.
@cafreiman He’s right:
- Capitalism: entrepreneur and investors get paid most, labor does OK
- Socialism: inferior product gets made, government gets most of the money, entrepreneur and labor get paid extremely poorly & crummy phones
@cremieuxrecueil Right in a sense but wouldn't the better policy be to late employers set whatever sick leave policy they choose and enforce it however they wish?
@jeffhunt Marx may win by more than that. Every unaffiliated conservative I speak to has written off the Republican primary as a Marx win / lost cause and therefore participated in the Democrat primary for Bennett, who they consider marginally better than Weiser.
@Zigmanfreud I wouldn’t call them socialist but the premise here seems to be that anything that is government funded vs a market solution is socialist so, in that case, perhaps things like NASA, NOAA, the Manhattan Project, and US military.
Definitely not social security.
@JacquesBezuide9@MsMelChen The point is the US appeals to all tastes. In any semi affluent town and you will find it all. There will be a gas station with some innovative pricing deal that makes people “love” their coffee, chains (Starbucks, Peet’s, etc), and incredible craft coffee shops/roasters.
