Bad math by me in live blog post on LaMelo trade. He missed 169 games in first five regular seasons in Charlotte, not 211. One of those much-injured seasons, I must’a counted twice, b/c I’m basically a math whiz … with numbers.
Start including lines & > & ¥, I’m screwed.
Many favorite RD moments, but this was No. 1:
Comiskey, 1-run lead in 9th, 2 or 3 on, 2 outs, Baines up.
RD slider, Harold hacks, strike 3, but all Twins remain frozen.
Few seconds, RD looks around & gives cautious fist pump.
Then, mates shake off disbelief & celebrate.
@Gary_J_Fisch@Patrick_Reusse@TwinsAlmanac@MinnBaseball Still have nightmares of Ron Davis standing on the rubber, ball in right hand, in the glove's pocket, peering in at the catcher, mouth qnd nose taking deep, deep, sighs, as his shoulders slowly heaved, up and down. The Horror. The Horror.
@TwinsAlmanac@MinnBaseball@Patrick_Reusse We always thought "bullpen" was going to be the cause of death to my father. In his later days we'd have to call him after a blown save. Especially if they walked or hit a #9 batter. Al Worthington and Senor Smoke were the only relievers my dad ever liked
Dolly Parton says fans would drive by and ask her husband if he was Dolly Parton's husband, and he'd say 'do I look like I'd be Dolly Parton's husband'
"He'd be out mowing the yard on the tractor and the fans would come by to see our house, and they'd say, are you Dolly Parton's husband? He'd say, do I look like I'd be Dolly Parton's husband, with his old straw hat and his old work clothes on"
"When I first got here I won song of the year, a BMI award in 1966, the year we got married. He rented a tuxedo, didn't want to do it, I begged him to go"
"And when we were leaving, he started taking the jacket off and said, now I want you to do great, but don't you ever ask me to go to another one of these damn things, cuz I ain't going. And he never did"
"I knew right then that I'm just going to keep him private as best I can, never ask him to do nothing. He was very proud of me. But we got along great because we didn't have nothing to fight over like that"
Garlic parm chicken at White Castle. I protest.
What happened to sack of those little bastard burgers with warning: Don’t consume before 2 am … https://t.co/3VBEbE0ZBr
Man, that 5-1 road trip really fired up Twins Nation. Fans on the plaza outside the gates for past hour, hooting, hollering & getting everyone fired up. There’s even someone with a megaphone.
Most excitement I’ve heard since 13-game winning streak last May.
Go, Twins!
My mother’s weeky bridge club was good for few lines, including what was served.
Two tables of 4, plus that week’s hostess.
I can still see my Mom, as hostess, peering at a player’s hand, pointing at recommended card to play, while also holding her lit Camel.
Went to a family reunion on my mom’s side yesterday and she brought along her genealogy scrapbooks. Newspapers back in the day really did cover all the news that was fit to print.
