A former senior manager at Kenya Revenue Authority lost KSh 63 million trying to secure a top job as chair of Kenya Urban Roads Authority. After retirement, he was introduced to a “well-connected” broker who promised he could influence the appointment at a price. He paid millions in stages, believing the deal was progressing.

The job never came. When the promises collapsed, he went to court to recover the money. But the court found that the payments were tied to bribery and influence peddling, making the entire arrangement illegal from the start.

Because of that, the court refused to help him. In law, you cannot recover money paid for an illegal purpose,the loss stays with you.
