I went to church today for Easter—not because I’m Christian or trying to be. I went out of respect for my boyfriend’s family, who are. I don’t follow any religion, and I honestly can’t see myself ever going back to one.

The whole message was about love. That God loves you. Jesus loves you. He died for your sins.

And sitting there, I couldn’t help but compare it to what I grew up with. I practiced Islam until I was 18. I was religious. I’ve been to more Islamic ceremonies and events than I can count.

And let me tell you: fear is at the core of everything. You’re constantly reminded how you’ll burn in hell if you don’t blindly follow what Mohammad said. There’s no message of love. No warmth. No compassion. Just threats. Just control.

The Muslim god isn’t a merciful one—he’s a tyrant, always ready to throw you into hell over the smallest thing.

Today just reminded me how deeply I hate Islam. Islam is not a religion of peace. It’s a religion of fear, hate, and violence.
