@stephenosegundo Lol. He’s got a point tho hasn’t he? It’s not really a national anthem is it? More a family anthem. I reckon many would agree something that captures the spirit & ambition of a nation would be more unifying than a song extolling one person. Getting folk to agree on what tho…
@Rod__Mason@ggreig@theAliceRoberts Setting a limit’s not a smart move. The govt is trying and it’s partly what Brexit was about - and the economy is tanked. Strong economies need migration. Ref Luxembourg again. Let’s not fall for the line that the mess we are in is because we have immigration of 2.25/1000 popn.
@Rod__Mason@ggreig@theAliceRoberts When was the 735k? Latest ONS figure for 2022 is 600K. That’s lower per 1000 popn than almost any EU. UK migration fig is 2.25/1000 popn vs Luxembourg 40/1000. And rhe Lux GDP is $115000 Vs U.K. $45000. Figure that out. Global Economies need migration.
@Rod__Mason@Frances_Coppola@ggreig@theAliceRoberts I’m not sure net migration of 500000 (2022) is really so much. It’s 2.25/1000 popn, Vs c5/1000 for France and 10/1000 for Germany. Rather the Q should be why are we so poor as an economy that we can’t accommodate a net migration figure so low. Where does all the💰go?
@Rod__Mason@Frances_Coppola@ggreig@theAliceRoberts I’d rather stop the problems that cause the boats. We’d be better served by taking a wider view & finding a way for the world’s 6th largest econ to accommodate people in need, rather than entering a debate created solely for the purpose of winning votes and masking govt failure.
