@666TheKraken @Our_DA They did actually call the kinky hair texture “dry and damaged” when it was not. Had they used stock images of people with similar hair, there won’t be an issue, but they’re comparing apples with oranges and it is hurtful. It might seem petty, but what we say about others matters

We should stand up for ourselves and say when things are unacceptable. We should fight for a society in which everyone is free to be themselves.

@666TheKraken @Our_DA The ad is saying that people with that hair texture has “frizzy, dull, damaged” hair when in fact the hair shown in the ad is very healthy! It is othering people with that hair texture and thus racist towards anyone with that hair texture. I’d argue we are not sensitive enough!

They could have said they’re horrified by what happened and called for full transparency and encouraged sensitivity training. Instead, it’s a game between DA and EFF. Enough, we want talks of real social change!

@JackBla25356238 @Our_DA The ad normalises straight hair and makes curly or kinky hair seem bad (e.g. “dull and frizzy”), which it is not! The hair in the ad is very healthy curly hair! It is degrading and basically says, because you have this hair texture, you are less than.

For years I felt ugly with my crazy curls and frizz because of comments by straight-haired folks. This is NOTHING compared to what other races have to deal with. So, keep your comments to yourself and use your privilege to demand real change from #Clicks! All hair is beautiful!
