[Retired Lt General Winston Sigauke Mapuranga @SajeniMapuranga]

I have read the announcement. The Treasury split in two; Professor Ncube retains his desk criminal Tagwirei gains a ministry.

The commentariat calls it the end of General Chiwenga. I spent too many years in operations rooms to mistake noise for signal.

Let me tell you what this appointment is, and what it is not.

It is a platform a public office, a podium, and the levers of investment promotion. Useful things. A newcomer needs them, because he has never had them.

But a ministry is given, and what is given can be taken away. General Chiwenga's authority was never given.

It was earned in the liberation struggle, in the command of the Defence Forces, and in November 2017, when this nation required men who would not flinch and he did not flinch.

You cannot issue an edict awarding that to a criminal tenderpreneur. You cannot purchase it with years of bankrolling a party. History does not sell what it has already bestowed.

They say the Senator is the President's preferred successor. Perhaps. Incumbents prefer many things; institutions decide other things.

The co-option into the Central Committee last year required bypassing the politburo because General Chiwenga stood and cited procedure and procedure held.

Mark that well when the rules were under threat, one man defended them, and the short-cut was delayed. That is the man Zimbabwe needs in State House. A man who respects the rule when it costs him will respect the constitution when it costs him far more.

They say the 2030 project sidelines him. Perhaps it tries. But let us be honest about the arithmetic the loyalists' plan requires Mnangagwa to remain until 2030, which requires surviving a congress, a constitution, and the party itself.

Every delay is a test the newcomer must pass in public, with his economic ministry scrutinised daily in an economy that forgives nothing.

A seat at the Cabinet table is not a coronation. The army I served does not salute portfolios. The provinces do not vote for bank statements. And the congress of 2027 will not be chaired by Sakunda Holdings.

I am an old soldier. I have no faction to feed, no contract to protect, no reason to speak except this: I swore an oath to Zimbabwe, not to its purse-holders.

The man who has earned the presidency through service and sacrifice is General Constantino Chiwenga.

I endorsed him before this appointment. I endorse him after it. The appointment changes nothing.

The nation is watching. So are we all.

Retired Lieutenant General Winston Sigauke Mapuranga.

🔸The dilapidated CBD, discolored road and sea of poor vendors and unemployed young people paint a sad backdrop to the sea of luxury Rolls Royces that slither through them. The largesse slowly drives through the poverty with no acknowledgment. We have every reason to mourn the death of a value system and leadership philosophy that once said “Gutsaruzhinji” - feed everyone until they are full. It now says “loot state coffers until you can’t”, the masses don’t matter.

We need new leaders.🇿🇼

🚨 Patrice Evra on Cristiano Ronaldo deciding to remain available for Portugal:

“I learnt that Cristiano has decided not to retire and I picked up my phone.

I wrote, ‘Cris, please tell me you understand what you’re walking back into.’

Because sometimes your friend needs somebody to celebrate him.

Sometimes he needs somebody to tell him the truth.

And if Cristiano asked me, I would tell him not to go back.

Not because he cannot play anymore.

Look at the situation.

If Jorge Jesus is still the manager and Cristiano starts the next match then it becomes

‘Cristiano complained, left the camp and now Portugal have been forced to start him.’

If he sits on the bench?

‘Forty one years old and still refusing to retire just to sit there.’

If he starts and doesn’t score?

‘Portugal were better without him.’

If Portugal lose?

We already know whose photograph will be everywhere the next morning.

And if Portugal win?

Some people will simply wait for the next match.

So I would ask him, ‘Brother, what exactly are you going back there to win?’

I know Cristiano.

Tell him he’s finished and he wants to prove you wrong. Tell him he cannot do something and suddenly doing it becomes the most important thing in his life.

That mentality made him Cristiano Ronaldo.

But the mentality that takes you to the top cannot always tell you when you have already won.

Sometimes wisdom is looking at a fight and saying, ‘There is nothing here for me.’

You gave Portugal more than twenty years.

You became their record goalscorer. You lifted trophies for your country.

What exactly are you still trying to prove?

I would rather Cristiano walk away while people are arguing about whether he could have continued than stay until everybody agrees that he shouldn’t.

There is dignity in that.

And I really hope there is somebody around Cristiano telling him this.

Not an employee. Not somebody afraid to upset him.

A friend.

Somebody who can say, ‘No, Cris. I know you want to prove them wrong again. This time you don’t need to.’

The people around great players have a responsibility too.

Everybody loves standing beside Cristiano Ronaldo when he is lifting trophies.

The difficult job is being the person willing to tell Cristiano Ronaldo something Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t want to hear.

I would ask him, ‘Tell me the perfect ending now.’

He scores?

He has already scored 146 times for Portugal.

He proves he can still play?

We know Cristiano Ronaldo can still play football.

So what are we chasing?

There is another ending.

He says, ‘I gave everything I had to Portugal. I wish the boys well.’

And leaves.

Then nobody can bench him.

Nobody can accuse him of forcing the manager to start him.

Nobody can blame the next defeat on his return.

Nobody can turn every team sheet into another argument about Cristiano Ronaldo.

It’s finished.

On his terms.

There is no opponent to beat in that ending.

No goalkeeper. No defender. No scoreboard.

Just acceptance.

Maybe Cristiano has to learn that he can live without answering football every time it questions him.

If he returns, I will support my brother.

But if he asked Patrice Evra what I genuinely wanted him to do?

I’d tell him, ‘Stay home.’

Watch Portugal. Support the boys. Call them after the game. Give advice to the young players.

Be their captain without needing the armband.

And when somebody says, ‘Cristiano left because he couldn’t handle not playing,’ smile.

Let them say it.

You spent twenty years answering people with goals.

You don’t owe them answer number 147.

Sometimes the final victory is refusing to play a game where everybody else has already decided what your defeat will look like.”

@FabrizioRomano why can’t he just retire from international football like Messi.he just has to accept that he’s old and he no longer fit into the team anymore than to create unnecessary drama

🚨🇵🇹 Cristiano Ronaldo: “I decided to leave the camp without waiting for any further breach of word. For me the truth is still the most important thing in the relationship between people. However much it hurts, let them tell me the truth.

In fact, in a conversation I had with the President of the FPF and with the coach on the morning of the day of that press conference — they can certainly confirm this — I reaffirmed that if they did not want me there they should tell me. It was enough for them to be frank with me. I would accept that and I promised that we would prepare something beautiful, as I dream will happen, and no one would be left angry.
I remember it as if it were today. They replied in unison that no. That my place was in the National Team.

Never, at any moment, have I interfered in any technical or tactical decision of any coach or national team manager in almost 25 years of career.

I accept, for better or worse, what they propose that I do. I respect the decision, and when they break their word to me, I feel that my place is not there.

I also owe an apology to my national team teammates for having left the camp.

Despite the absolute breach of trust in the coach’s word, as those who witnessed these conversations can attest, I should not have done it. The responsibility is exclusively mine.

I apologise to the Portuguese people once again, but the breaking of one’s word has, for me, a defining impact. I felt that, from that point on, my remaining would only harm the working group, and I did what I have always said I would do if I did not feel useful: I packed my bags and left.

The consequence of this act of mine must be assessed and punished by the Portuguese Football Federation. I understand that the punishment should have no mitigating factors. I am not just any player; I am team captain, and that constitutes an aggravating factor.

I have already apologised, but I know that attitudes must have consequences. Anyone who is in football as I am knows that, regardless of each person’s status, the rules are the same for everyone.

On this subject, I have heard a great deal of talk about farewell matches, that I must have a dignified farewell and that the Federation wants to give me that opportunity.

I learned in life, often hungry and with nothing to eat, that no one gives anything to anyone.

I can promise all my fans, naturally and especially all Portuguese people, that we will have one or more farewell matches; there will be time for that.

But when I think of the national team, what I really think of is competing. That is what I thought on the day I was given the news of my father’s death.

I was at a camp with our national team and I decided to stay there until the end of the match the following day. I did for the country what I would never do for any club.

Therefore, if I am physically well, playing for my club, with goals I hope, after serving the suspension that may be applied to me, I will be available, as I have always been until today, to compete and win for our national team.

This is, believe me, the purest of truths.

Cristiano Ronaldo”.

• Fellow Zimbabweans, let’s gather here and give this man the respect he deserves 👏🏼👏🏼.

[President of Zimbabwe @edmnangagwa]

This evening, senior government officials, and I visited the Chivayo family home in Gletwyn, Harare, to offer our deepest personal condolences following the sudden and tragic passing of Mr. Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy "Lulu" Muteke-Chivayo, and three others.

The helicopter accident in rural Marondera on Wednesday afternoon has left our entire nation numbed and in deep shock and grief.
Wicknell was a man of grand vision, not just for his family, but for Zimbabwe and the wider African continent. The Chivayo family’s deep patriotism and selfless philanthropy transformed numerous lives across public service, religion, culture, and sport.

In this time of national loss, we also mourn the two promising crew members and the dedicated security aide who perished alongside them.

During this moment of profound heartbreak, we stand together in unity, compassion, and prayer with the bereaved families. May the Almighty comfort them and grant collective strength to our nation.

May their dear souls rest in eternal peace.

The system is cruel and cold. Your guy dies and your first move is to get soldiers to barricade his house and force his funeral to a cousin / aunt’s house
(and not his own) because you need to ensure the loot at his place doesn’t get nicked?

Even having a Tanzanian president offering to send her personal aides (soldiers/ mercenaries) to help protect it. WTF.

The whole time his body is cold in the veld (not that it feels it).

This guy gave anything for selfies with you but you are treating him like a disposable piece of shit.

Btw he was a piece of work. But damn show some loyalty.

Anyways. 🚮
