أعلنت وزارة الدفاع أن الدفاعات الجوية الإماراتية رصدت عدد 2 صواريخ باليستية قادمة من إيران باتجاه الدولة، حيث سقط الأول خارج المياه الإقليمية للدولة، فيما سقط الثاني في المياه الإقليمية.

وتؤكد وزارة الدفاع أنها على أهبة الاستعداد والجاهزية للتعامل مع أي تهديدات، والتصدي بحزم لكل ما يستهدف زعزعة أمن الدولة، بما يضمن صون سيادتها وأمنها واستقرارها، ويحمي مصالحها ومقدراتها الوطنية.

كما تهيب بالجمهور الكريم استقاء كافة الأخبار من الجهات الرسمية في الدولة وتجنب الشائعات والمعلومات المغلوطة.

The 381BG has lost 11 B-17s - the heaviest loss of any group on the "Double Strike" mission. Eighty-three men are POWs, 12 evading capture, and five have been KIA. The 8AF has lost 60 B-17s and 605 men on both raids. Sixty B-17s are damaged beyond repair.

As the remnants of the 381BG limp across the North Sea, George R. Darrow's Rum Boogie (aka Our Mom) flies with two disabled engines, before the remaining two fail. The B-17 ditches, but the crew escapes before it sinks. They're rescued and taken to Manston.

After a 50-minute lull in fighter attacks, Chug-A-Lug Lulu, piloted by Loren C. Disbrow experiences an assault leaving three engines badly damaged. A fourth seizes before the B-17 drops into a spin. Disbrow and his crew bail out. Six become POW, four escape

17 AUGUST 1943 | 15:30
Half an hour after dropping his bombs, Harry M. Smith's Damfino is attacked by a second German fighter. The B-17 develops a spin, which Smith is unable to arrest. Another ten 381BG men bail out over Germany.

At the same time as King Malfunction II falls from the formation, Strato Sam, flown by James C. Hudson, quickly follows. One crewman is KIA when his parachute spills inside the aircraft. Nine others are taken POW.

The 381BG unloads its 500lb bombs on the Kugelfischer ball-bearing plants. The 532nd Bomb Squadron's Ole' Swayback is attacked by a Luftwaffe fighter, leaving two engines smoking. Leo Jarvis instructs his crew to jump. All ten are taken POW.

The 534BS' Hell's Angel attempts to dodge a falling B-17, but is then seen to go down with one engine damaged and a wing on fire. Five parachutes are seen, although all ten manage to bail out. Reinhardt King and crew are taken POW.

In just 22 minutes, the 381st Bomb Group has suffered the loss of seven B-17s - half its cumulative combat losses to date. Of the total 230 B-17s sent to Schweinfurt, only 198 reach the Initial Point at Gemünden.

The 532nd Bomb Squadron's King Malfunction II, being flown by Jack Painter is forced down by a combination of flak and fighter attack. Painter is KIA, six are taken POW. Three evade capture, including two who become the first to successfully escape Germany.
