The Beatles on ToTPs
Film is Fabulous! is delighted to confirm the 35mm negative presented to John Franklin at the recent film convention in Oxted, contains the The Beatles first appearance on Top of the Tops.
@TheRiddler_Lord No. No need. The negs were super clean and scanned at 4096 x 3072. Taking into account the academy offset, the final pixel height of the cropped image was 2160 give or take. Some shots were resized beyond that in the film originally, so I matched that but they stood up fine.
The Doctor Who TV Movie, fully remastered from the original film elements is available to pre-order now. There's a trailer which is voiced by the fabulous Sylvester McCoy and here's one of the original film frames featuring the great man.

@TheRiddler_Lord Many assumptions in the vid. What's described in the comment as "terrifying AI face creation" is incorrect. The first example is a highly accurate upscale when compared to the film. The second two examples aren't AI at all but the neg roto'd into an SD effects shots.
@TheRiddler_Lord Absolutely right. For sections where we only had standard definition elements, SD was upscaled to HD via a hardware scaler, then AI was used to enhance to 4K. Looked at the timecodes in the image you sent. They make no sense. Send specifics and I can comment.
@asdansvehicle@TheGriftReport This is true. But the profit doesn't go to shareholders. It goes back into programme making within the corporation in support of the licence fee. Netflix dividends go to Blackrock, Vanguard, Morgan Stanley etc...
@AMadmanNotABox Yeah.
No idea why it wasn't sorted in 1996. It was a straightforward repair, but it was exposed like that. I think it's the top of a matte box that's dropped down into the top of the frame. I suspect that they decided it was in the TV safe area cut-off and left it as it was.
Short Silent Movie Found
The Film is Fabulous! team have found a short silent movie, made by Edison Studios in a property in the north of England. The film has spent the last sixty years in a dank haven. It is:
The Actress (1913)
What is Vinegar Syndrome?
In this look at the archives, Paul Vanezis examines various negatives to show the progression of the decay.
Note: The GoFundMe campaign mentioned in this video officially ended in 2025.

@TheCyberdevil Well, it's not being planned at all, but it is being discussed. Ultimately whether it happens will depend on the agreement of all parties with a stake in the film and whether there is the budget to do it.
Film is Fabulous! has recovered a missing episode of The Morecambe And Wise Show. The episode forms part of the comedy duo’s first series for the BBC. The recovery is timely, as it will help mark Eric Morecambe’s centenary celebrations on 14th May, 2026.
Admiration for Anna Foster on @BBCr4today putting up with sleepy Israeli spokesman Alex Gandler justifying the murder by Israel of Lebanese civilians claiming that Hezbollah hide amongst them, whilst Israeli ministers say they intend to annexe southern Lebanon and occupy it.
Daleks’ Discussion Two
Host Toby Hadoke interviewed a series of guests during the screening of the recovered Doctor Who episodes. The screening was held at Riverside Studios in London on Saturday, 4th April.
@SAlcumbrac I don't have any information about it as I wasn't involved in the restoration. All I know is that there was an issue with one of the episodes. It was compared with an off-air soundtrack and the discrepancy identified.
Doctor Who screening @RiversideLondon was a triumph! 🪠 @filmisfabulous put on a perfect show 🎞 @TobyHadoke an immaculate MC 🎤 Peter Purves shone ⭐ Applause for Douglas Camfield & Adrienne Hill's family 🙏 Love and mutual respect in abundance ❤ @PaulVanezis@themindrobber 👏
