President Bola Tinubu is my presidential candidate.

Yes, I will vote for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential elections.

In 2023, I voted for Peter Obi despite being a PDP stalwart. I chose Obi based on my convictions back then. However, tastes and human choices are dynamic.

Having seen what President Tinubu was able to achieve, changing him would destabilize the modest progress made so far.

Here are a few reasons I'm sticking with Tinubu:
1. Improved revenue to the three federating units. Nigeria was insolvent and literally bankrupt before the Tinubu regime. The CBN was using the Ways and Means Window (printing of money without value created) to run the economy to the tune of N33 trillion. This skyrocketed the inflation rate to over 30 percent as of 2023. Our nominal GDP was about N230 billion, while we had multiple exchange rates, which were distorting planning, forecast, and investment decisions. These macroeconomic distortions have been stabilized and greatly improved.
2. Removal of petrol subsidy. Petrol subsidy has been identified by all previous governments as problematic, but none had the political power to remove it. Petrol subsidy became inefficient, and the government was no longer able to pay for such inefficiency. Nigeria was using over 90% of her revenue annually to service debts, implying that we had to borrow to fund the subsidy. Its removal was absolutely necessary.
3. Improved welfare of federal civil servants.
4. Improved road infrastructure across the federation.
5. Implementation of the ASUU-FG Agreement of 2009. Since 2009, no president had the political will to honor an agreement signed, but Tinubu did.
6. Supreme Court LGA Autonomy. The LG financial autonomy judgment was meant to restore life and progress to our rural communities. Unfortunately, many state governors, in connivance with the State Houses of Assembly, brought in some obnoxious state laws that would deceptively allow states to continue managing LGA funds.

The two areas I think the president needs to improve on are the security of lives and property and to discontinue borrowing even after the removal of the petrol subsidy. Endemic corruption in Nigeria has not been ruthlessly addressed as well.

Away from the noise and emotions, our state governors have failed the people.

Subsidy removal came with a trade-off between improved revenues to federal, states, and LGAs and weakened purchasing powers of households and economic discomfort. However, these funds handed over to the governors have not been reinvested admirably to solve state and local challenges. Our roads are still bad; our schools are still dilapidated; our hospitals are still dysfunctional; our communities are still unsecured; unemployment is still ravaging, and the welfare of state workers remains miserable.

To a larger extent, the federal government has reinvested part of its own share of the subsidy windfall in workers' welfare packages. I have evidence.

For instance, my wife, who is a Level 13 federal civil servant, earns more than I do, a professor at the university. Secondly, a professor in a federal university now earns between N1.2-N1.4 million naira monthly. (Don't even bother asking me how much I earn, because you will be shocked).

These improved welfare packages, improved road networks, healthcare facilities, and educational facilities are meant to atone for the rises in petrol prices, housing, and transportation costs, etc. The federal government has obviously reinvested its share better than most states across the federation.

It is, therefore, my conviction to vote and campaign for President Tinubu in the 2027 Presidential elections, if God keeps us safe, sound, and alive, amen 🙏.

You are entitled to choose your own god whom you will serve. It doesn't call for a quarrel or abuses. This is the beauty of "democracy."

Chevron and TotalEnergies are set to start drilling campaigns later this year.

For Chevron , there will be an infill drilling of Agbami field expected to raise production output. An appraisal well is also planned at Ikija field. First oil is expected in 2032, with the field to be developed as a tie-back to the Agbami FPSO.

TotalEnergies is on course to mobilise a rig for an extensive drilling campaign that will start with the Akpo Far East exploration well in the second half of this year. Akpo Far East is estimated to hold about 144 million barrels of crude oil. Successful exploration drilling will utilise existing infrastructure, including the Akpo FPSO. TotalEnergies will also restart Akpo and Egina infill drilling, having paused this in the third quarter of 2025 while it examined seismic data.

Dangote rejects NNPC offer to increase stake in refinery.

The President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has said the group rejected requests by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to increase its 7.25 per cent stake in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

Importers have rejected the proposed increase in shipping tariffs by major shipping companies in the country.

Acting under the aegis of Importers Association of Nigeria (IMAN), South West Zone, the group described the move as a violation of existing agreements with stakeholders and a threat to businesses and consumers already burdened by high costs.

Speaking after a stakeholders’ meeting with shipping companies in Lagos, its Acting Chairman, Joseph Ajoku, said the association and other business groups might resort to legal action if the new tariffs are implemented without proper consultation.

An application was filed to obtain an ex parte order against you, the court said no, put the other party on notice. Then the other party who was put on notice rushed to the court of appeal and the court of appeal said go back to the lower court and continue the business there, with an accelerated hearing, in view of the nature of the suit and time for the election.

Now you are going to the Supreme Court. To do what? Is this not an abuse of judicial process? Is that not a bastardisation of judicial system? Does not raise serious disciplinary issues that the professional body should be up to deal with?
