We urge @MoHFW_INDIA to address the unfair disqualification of MSc./Ph.D. teachers from serving as undergraduate examiners under NMC regulations.

Despite court rulings, many universities continue to deny qualified teachers with years of experience their rightful roles. Over 3,000 dedicated educators, some with decades of service, are affected.

Please intervene and direct NMC to amend the GMER guidelines to ensure that all teachers with 3+ years of experience in medical colleges can be appointed as examiners.

Dr. Ayan Das, Secretary of NMMTA, represented the association at NABL's "Meeting with Stakeholders for Draft NABL 112 Review" held in Delhi on August 20th.

During the meeting, it was affirmed that the guidelines under the Clinical Establishments Act regarding the signing of lab reports would be adhered to.

Additionally, MSc and Ph.D qualifications will be included in both qualification listings and assessment forms.

We, the members of the NMMTA, are deeply outraged and shocked by the recent heinous crime involving the rape and murder of Dr. Moumita Debnath at R.G. Kar Medical College. This tragic incident has not only shocked our community but also highlighted the urgent need for comprehensive reforms to ensure the safety and security of women in our workplaces.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Dr. Moumita Debnath's family and loved ones during this profoundly difficult time. We stand in solidarity with them, and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this unimaginable grief.

It is imperative that we take immediate and decisive action to address the systemic issues that allow such atrocities to occur. We call for:

1. Stringent Regulations: Implementation of strict guidelines and safety protocols within all institutions to protect women from violence and harassment.

2. Enhanced Security Measures: Increased security infrastructure, including surveillance and emergency response systems, to safeguard individuals in workplace environments.

3. Rigorous Enforcement: Ensuring that existing laws and regulations concerning workplace safety and anti-violence are rigorously enforced.

4. Support Systems: Establishment of comprehensive support systems for victims and their families, including counseling and legal assistance.

5. Education and Training: Mandatory training programs for all staff and students on recognizing, reporting, and preventing harassment and violence.

This tragic event underscores a critical need for action. We urge authorities, institutions, and all stakeholders to collaborate in creating a safer and more respectful environment for everyone.

The Supreme Court has stated that the right to be considered for promotion, as part of the right to equal opportunity in employment, is a fundamental right under Articles 14 and 16(1) of the Constitution.

Thus, if a college management denies promotion to a faculty member who has the required experience and qualifications, it would violate fundamental rights and could result in litigation from the aggrieved party.

How can qualified individuals be deemed ineligible overnight?

This sudden decree, stripping qualified professionals of their eligibility, is a betrayal to those who've dedicated their lives to teaching.

How can we accept that years, even decades, of experience can be rendered worthless overnight?

This decision shows a callous disregard for the livelihoods and expertise of countless postgraduates.

People existing in the system deserve protection; they can't be declared ineligible and thrown out.

We call upon the @PMOIndia and the @MoHFW_INDIA to act immediately.

This injustice, born from the pride and prejudices of a few in medical education, must be corrected.

Dear Honorable Minister,

In our pursuit to meet the WHO-prescribed doctor-to-population ratio, our nation has commendably increased the number of medical colleges. However, amidst this progress lies a critical challenge: the severe shortage of faculty, particularly in newly established medical institutions.

The government has admirably provided support in terms of land and infrastructure, yet the shortage of qualified educators persists. This issue is exacerbated by the reluctance of MBBS graduates to pursue non-clinical specialties, further limiting the pool of potential teachers.

Internationally, utilizing individuals with medical MSc or Ph.D. qualifications in teaching roles is a recognized practice. Regrettably, decisions from the National Medical Commission seem to disregard this proven approach. Personal biases and prejudices of a few individuals are influencing policies that profoundly impact medical education.

It is imperative that such flawed decisions are swiftly rectified. The Ministry of Health, as the guardian of medical education, must assert its authority to ensure policies are fair and inclusive of all stakeholders' interests. This includes reconsidering the roles of qualified individuals with diverse medical backgrounds in teaching positions.

We appeal for decisive action to revoke misguided policies, remove biased individuals from decision-making positions, and steer medical education back on track. The future of our healthcare system depends on nurturing a competent and adequately staffed cadre of medical professionals.

We earnestly hope that the government will step up to address these pressing issues and initiate necessary reforms without delay.

This is the scenario in Rajasthan, which is a political hotbed of nefarious elements in medical education. The appointing authority is being pressurised by the lobbyists from hiring eligible faculties with medical MSc/PhD qualifications. Ultimately, it is the medical students who suffer due to the prejudiced politics of a few individuals and the regulator. It's disappointing that the ministry @MoHFW_INDIA has allowed itself to be sidelined and ignored.

Mere opening of medical colleges in itself isn't sufficient. What quality of IMGs are we producing? Who is responsible and accountable for this situation?

The NMC is blatantly pursing a discriminatory policy of 'academic apartheid ' against a minority section of teachers with MSc/PhD qualifications.
