We have learned about Alma Thomas and celebrate her art, inspired by the colours she saw in nature. Throughout the year, students have taken risks to explore their creativity and see themselves as artists! We love how these turned out 🤩 #hcdsbk@saopmilton1@HCDSB_k
We are learning about the inquiry process! During our “snowstorm in a jar” experiment, we made predictions about what we think will happen when we put Alka-Seltzer tablets into a jar filled with water, paint and oil & shared our observations of the changes we saw @saopmilton1
Uno cards were the inspiration for today’s math practice. Students flipped a card over and dabbed the same number and colour of Christmas lights on the string #hcdsbk@saopmilton1@HCDSB_k
We are exploring the shapes of numbers 1-10 using the Ten Frame Towers set from @LRC_HCDSB
We can use our mathematical reasoning and spatial awareness skills to use the number frames to fill in each gingerbread man shape! #hcdsbk@saopmilton1@HCDSB_k
Today, we began our Advent journey as a school family. Check out our Advent calendar with different ways to show numbers and a faith-filled action for each day. Our first action was to light the candle of hope on our Advent wreaths #hcdsbk@saopmilton1@HCDSB_k
Decorating our Christmas tree provided students with some fine motor practice as they hung up each ornament. We also practiced our spatial reasoning skills to ensure that our ornaments are evenly spaced around our tree! #hcdsbk@saopmilton1@HCDSB_k
After reading the story of the Gingerbread Man, we extended our learning with an unplugged coding challenge. Students created their own maps and used directional arrows to guide the gingerbread man through their path, from start to finish! #hcdsbk@saopmilton1@HCDSB_k
Check out how students used our DIY magnifying glasses with red magnatiles to reveal upper and lower case letters and practice their letter printing in meaningful ways #hcdsbk@saopmilton1@HCDSB_k
On Remembrance Day, we remember and think about all of the people who helped make our world a better place. We strive to make our school a peaceful place by showing respect and care to others @saopmilton1
We have been learning about why the poppy is an important symbol for Remembrance Day. Check out some of the activities from this week! We spy letter recognition and opportunities for students to explore counting and number relationships in their play! @saopmilton1
We are always looking for examples of where we see God around us! Students discovered this toad in our yard during outdoor exploration and were determined to keep it safe and return it back to its home in nature because “God made it!” @saopmilton1@HCDSB_k
We wonder: “How many seeds are in a pumpkin?” Today, we cut open a large and a small pumpkin and challenged students to count how many seeds were in each, using a 100s chart to demonstrate 1-1 correspondence #hcdsbk@saopmilton1@HCDSB_k
We are working hard to build our MindUp community and create a caring classroom. As we returned to school from an extra long weekend, we met as a school family and wished each other a happy day with our welcome hearts! @MindUP@KrystleMCR@saopmilton1
Through our play, we learn more about our strengths, likes & dislikes & see ourselves through a different lens. Learning about how Van Gogh used swirls to make his paintings come alive challenged students to take risks to see themselves as artists! #hcdsbk@saopmilton1@HCDSB_k
After reading the story of Oakley, the playground tree, we are reminded of our call to be stewards of God’s creation. The story inspired us to give names to the trees in our yard as a reminder that they are living & we need to care for them! @saopmilton1@HCDSB_k@michellejgreco
We wonder: “why do apples turn brown?” We investigated ways to prevent apples from browning by placing slices in jars with air, water, vinegar, ginger ale & lemon juice. We learned about the inquiry process & used descriptive words to talk about our observations! @saopmilton1
Check out these stewards of God’s creation in action! They were proud to share that they were crumpling up the leaves to feed and care for the potato bugs they found in our outdoor classroom! #hcdsbk@saopmilton1@HCDSB_k
We spy self-regulation in action! We love to see students use the tools available to them in our calming corner to regulate how they are feeling and get back to a state where they are calm, focused, and ready to learn and explore! #hcdsbk@saopmilton1@HCDSB_k
