@BenjiNaesen Thanks for using your platform to signal this. The level of abuse we get here is insane. Not to mention those who endanger us for the sake of it (driving towards you or stupidly close passes just to scare you).
It’s fine to tell cyclists to be mindful when riding fast but a post like this simply feeds into the already existing British anti-cycling rhetoric.
Especially when you don’t make it clear that these cyclists did not break any law.
In the UK, one can barely ride their bike without being verbally abused, and there’s always an existing fear of being hit by a car due to the many close encounters.
It’s one of the most unsafe countries I’ve ever ridden my bike.

Sad thing about this scandal is the way other media reports the @GrmayeBiniam injury then casually mention the visa refusal. An insult to Eritrea and their 120yr cycling history. He was the U23 🥈 medalist in Leuven '21. EDI failure for organisers & UCI
@pippa_york I started following you after a post race analysis on Eurosport for the Giro 2021. Your analysis was really among the smartest & interesting I've heard. Then I discovered your amazing story. Many cycling fans like me would love to hear you comment more often.
@jinky_watt @LFortunabro Good point, but I think the 'cyclist is a posh family environment' is a more UK thing and not generalisable in the peloton. See many South American riders. Or the French & Italian ones (here it's more a rural/urban distinction that applies).
