I teach politics at a University. Union rep. European politics (EU/comparative), energy & climate. Eco-socialism & lefty stuff. Champagne football. Funky music
New #OpenAccess article from @PBocquil & @TomasMaltby:
The EU’s energy and climate governance has been partially effective in raising ambitions but raises questions regarding the ability of experimentalist governance to deliver rapid emission reductions. https://t.co/hNDGD2vzpv
We need your support!

On strike.. again.. First of 18 days. Still about fair pension, pay & conditions. But on top of that we @UEA_UCU are threatened with compulsory redundancies. I'd be on the picket if the trains were running..😅 Solidarity to all on strike at UEA and across the country!
With all that happened last year, one of my New Year resolutions is not to spend much time on twitter, but I have to retweet this. Truly appalling failure from UEA management and something we will fight all the way @UEA_UCU@ucu ..😰😡
BREAKING BAD NEWS🚨
Our university is planning across the board compulsory redundancies as a cost-cutting measure in the next few months.
.@UEA_UCU has an EGM on Thursday 19/01/23 from 12-2 in the Council Chambers and online. Check email for details and show up. ✊
Having been in hospital in critical condition very recently and benefited from excellent care, I can only stand in solidarity with nurses. They deserve decent pay and working conditions, it's a matter of justice of course but it is also our health care which is at stake ❤️
Today our strike action begins, and nursing staff need your solidarity.
Share this if you stand with those fighting for a safer future for nursing, patients, and the NHS.

NEW: The #USS pension scheme, at the centre of an industrial disupte involving thousands of higher education sector workers, showed a £5.6bn surplus at the end of August, according to the latest scheme monitoring update.
Back on the picket line to fight for pension, pays & conditions in UK Higher Education. Sad we have to do it, again. On the plus side I got to see some of my good friends @UEA_UCU and colleagues @Politics_UEA on a cold but sunny morning 😎
We are obviously not gonna address climate change with lockdowns, and war-like mobilisation is not desirable either, but it is pretty clear a deep socio-economic reorganisation is in order.
To put into perpspective the scale of the mounting climate challenge in simple terms: "To reach zero CO2 emissions by 2050 would now require a decrease of about 1.4 GtCO2 each year, comparable to the observed fall in 2020 emissions resulting from COVID-19 lockdowns".
NEW
Global CO2 emissions have been "approximately constant since 2015” due to a modest decline in land-use emissions balancing out modest increases in fossil CO2

Birkbeck is under grave threat. On the eve of our 200th anniversary, senior management have announced plans to cut 140 academic & administrative staff across the college. Please sign & share this petition to oppose these cuts, which would be a disaster for staff and for students!
And just like in the 2010s, local authorities are made to implement austerity and shoulder much of the blame, with more cuts to already bare-bone vital services.. https://t.co/LeTasI7LGs
