At a sensitisation session in Pune today March 31, Dr Navneet Anand, Director, GreyMatters Communications, brought this idea alive while engaging with journalists on disability reporting.

Speaking alongside the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), he highlighted how the newly introduced ‘Media Toolkit on Disability Reporting’ is a guide, and a nudge. A nudge to ask better questions, to look beyond stereotypes, and to tell stories that reflect realities, not assumptions.

Dr Anand emphasised that #disability cannot remain an 'occasion-based' story. It needs to be part of everyday reporting - development, governance, economy.

हर बीट में, हर स्टोरी में।

He also highlighted sensitivities in reporting such as: refraining from sensationalising & romanticising disability, avoiding labels & stereotypes, using appropriate language, refraining from portraying disability as illness, among others.

The session wasn’t about telling journalists what to write. It was about opening new ways of seeing. As we say 'Write Right on Disability'!
