@melancholorful I worked for the organization for 22 years. There were multiple rounds of layoffs similar to this. July 2003 they laid off 88 people. In 2020 approx. 40 were cut. Sad, but an unfortunate reality in the corporate/business world. Unfortunately, sports franchises are not immune.
Talked to one person who survived the cuts today who said it feels like they just looked at a spreadsheet of salaries and cut the highest ones without any regard for what anyone does and how important they are.
@ChadinRipCity@highkin@RipCityRadio620 Early in my career, I was a studio producer at a Sonics radio affiliate when Kevin Calabro and Marques Johnson were the broadcasters. As great as they were, it just didn't translate well to radio for the exact reasons you and Sean laid out. Dundon should avoid this at all costs!
@ChadinRipCity@highkin@RipCityRadio620 This would be a major blunder. The NBA has frowned on simulcasts and in the past 20 years strongly encouraged teams to move away from them.
@BenGolliver@washingtonpost@PostSports Sorry, Ben; you're good at what you do, and more importantly, you're one of the good guys. I have no doubt you'll land on your feet.

BREAKING: First baseman Josh Naylor and the Seattle Mariners are finalizing a five-year contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. The first major free agent to sign this winter goes back to Seattle, where he was beloved after joining the Mariners in a deadline trade.
@juliajogo They should seriously consider it. They've had fewer than ten seasons in the last 40 years where they've been relevant as a program. It's a losing proposition in more ways than one. What an embarrassment.
Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups has been charged in an illegal poker operation tied to the Mafia, sources told @AaronKatersky of ABC News.
Billups' case is "separate but related to the illegal gambling case" involving Miami player Terry Rosier, who was"among six people charged with turning professional basketball into a criminal gambling operation by using inside information to place unlawful wagers."

Cal Raleigh: “I hate to use the word failure, but it’s a failure. That’s what we expected was to get to a World Series and win a World Series. That’s what the bar is and the standard is.”
