Don't let "Korra is the worst Avatar" discourse distract you from the fact that Roku let firelord Sozin be overly imperalist cause that was his dl trade

As a lesbian, straight people don't realize how isolating it is to live in a society that puts men at the center of everything. They simply don't know, and all they do is fuel prejudice against the lesbian community.
I think if authors are too poor to survive piracy and readers are too poor not to pirate then we need to have a really serious conversation about where all that money is and why it isn't circulating properly.
Reading a book you pirated actually means very little to an author if you are also widely justifying piracy. Publishers don't keep authors because of online feedback, they keep them because of sales.
Contrary to my last few tweets, I'm not against pirating. I pirate myself: mostly anime and manga, but the occasional book too. However, I am against people who act morally superior about pirating and act as if artists are somehow wrong for wanting to be compensated for their art
@witchymoonmoth Exactly! Piracy is a very complicated issue that just highlights how media functions eventually screws everyone. Ideally, you would pay for all your media & art so artists can get liveable wages but its not attainable with how these industries work rn
Morality becomes irrelevant when options don't exist. Is stealing art wrong? Yes, but if people can't afford books/don't have access to them it becomes a mute point.
We can only talk about how wrong something is when the option to do the right thing is attainable & reasonable.
i don’t think it’s crazy for authors to be against piracy,,, like yeah if you made something and people were getting it for free against your will instead of paying you, you might get upset, especially if that’s your job. very understandable, so I can’t be mad
this entire anti piracy debate boils down to the fact that you guys don’t think poor people or people in the global south deserve enriching lives. “steal food not books” people deserve to both eat and interact with art so that they can thrive and not just survive
