Ran the numbers on taxing unrealized gains.
$10k invested, 20% CAGR, 28% tax, 10 years.
Tax every year vs tax only when you sell.
The result surprised even me β and it should worry policymakers.

@skumWgmi β¬1,000 per month after expenses is actually amazing when you look at it globally. Most people in the world have less than that as their total monthly income
@Jason Now the minimum salary is β¬900, a doctor earns β¬1.8k, and rent is β¬1k. The middle class is slowly being eroded because the minimum wage keeps rising while median wages stay stagnant. Plus, someone earning β¬900 today isn't any better off than someone making β¬375 back in 2005
@Jason I am from Portugal, and the simply increase of minimum salary was catastrophic to the society. For example, in 2005 minimum salary was 375 euros, and a doctor on his first year would make per years 1.5k, the rent would be like 300 euros.
@levelsio I think the social medias will figure out ways to reduce bots when they see a decrease of usage by humans. If they dont do it, we will definitly have a need social media where bots are not allowed to create content.
@lawen4cer@Alex__Steffen Are you sure about that?! ππ Directly maybe no, but the amount of money the government distributes to the companies that go directly to the shareholders is crazy. Just look to the EU subsides. And I am note even mention when corruption happens
@levelsio It depends on the parents's education. I don't think it's fair to generalize. You could make a similar generalization about people with very low incomes, arguing that they don't aspire to be successful in life because of their home environment.
@coinbureau It feels quite expensive. It should be max 10 dollars considering it is on San Francisco. In other parts of America or Europe, max 5 dollars
@BernieSanders If we would implement his ideas, most people would probably still be farmers. Just look for example at AI: today, children worldwide, regardless of their background, have access to what is essentially a private tutor. No wealth redistribution could have such a positive impact.
@omgsidewalks And that statement is true because, without the potential for financial returns, far fewer people would invest and risk their capital. Without that investment, many of the products and innovations we enjoy todayβlike the iPhoneβwould never have been developed.
@ChrisCamillo The issue is that "gambling" is often associated only with games of chance, but the definition is much broader. In a way, most investments involve some level of gambling because they are based on uncertainty/probability, regardless of whether leverage or options are involved.
@ChrisCamillo "Gambling is defined as placing something of value, typically money, at risk on an event with an element of chance in the outcome, with the potential to win a substantially larger prize." I still think it's gambling, but the odds can be much better than at a casino
That's why I'm surprised by some of the posts I see on X claiming people barely look at the code anymoreβor don't review it at all before merging.
Am I missing something, or is that just not realistic for complex production systems?
As a senior software engineer, my experience with Cursor has changed a lot over the past few months.
The improvement has been remarkable.

AI has dramatically increased my implementation speed.
It hasn't eliminated the need for engineering judgment.
If anything, it's made code review even more valuable because I'm reviewing far more code than I'm writing manually.
