I stand with Homer’s Odyssey, not with a modern version created to make Odysseus easier for us to forgive. You say you did not mean to Christianize the story. But when the Trojan Horse becomes a source of guilt, the journey home becomes penance, and a warrior hungry for glory becomes ashamed of who he is, I have to wonder: are we still watching Homer’s hero, or a modern man sent to therapy in ancient armour?
Yes, Xenia matters. But so do kleos, timē, metis and nostos: glory, honour, cunning and the unbearable desire to return home.
Homer’s Odysseus is proud, violent, brilliant, selfish, loyal, wounded and deeply human. He is not asking the audience to approve of him. He is trying to reclaim his wife, his son, his home and the name the world almost took from him.
I do not need Odysseus to be more likeable. I need him to be recognizable.
Perhaps great stories are not supposed to make us comfortable. Perhaps they survive because they force us to face people whose values are not our own.
You borrowed Homer’s seas, his gods and his hero, but gave Odysseus the conscience of another age.
And I couldn’t help but wonder: when we rewrite the past until it finally agrees with us, are we bringing Homer to life or simply putting him on trial?

🚨 6 full days since we found him screaming in agony in an alley way and Mr Bear is still alive.

🏥 I thought we lost him a couple of times In the last 72 hours. He was really struggling to hang on.

🩸 We now know that it is leptospirosis that ravaged his body. It’s a disease passed on by rats and stagnant water.

🤒 His extreme pain is being managed and he has IV drips and all the meds he needs. He was puking, diarrhea and severe life threatening anemia all weekend. I don’t really know how he held on.

🥘 Last night and today he is back eating and drinking. It’s a tiny step but we think he might be 10% better. Still critical and he could slip away very easily but we all have some hope just looking at him today.

👁️ For the first time he has some clarity in his eyes. They are relaxing as he knows he is safe.

🛌 At the moment his best friend is sleep and his medicines.

I don’t know how this story ends and it’s still a long shot we save him as he hasn’t even been able to move in 6 days. But if you told me Bear would be alive today and eating tiny bits of poached chicken I would have bitten your arm off for that outcome just 2 days ago.

Two beautiful Red Setters were left shut in a hot car on Saturday the hottest day of the heatwave while their owners went and played golf.

They died in there.

According to reports, police said they’d issue a statement… and then went quiet. Now people are worried nothing will happen.

Two living, breathing dogs probably trusting their humans right up until the end suffered and died because someone decided a round of golf mattered more than their lives.
We all know how fast a car turns into an oven in July. We’ve all seen the warnings. There is no excuse.

These weren’t “mistakes.” This was a choice.

If the police and RSPCA don’t follow through with proper action here, what message does that send? That our dogs’ lives are disposable when it’s inconvenient for us?

I’m angry. I’m heartbroken for those dogs. And I’m tired of seeing this happen every summer with barely a slap on the wrist.

Some people shouldn’t own a budgie, let alone dogs.

What sort of moron leaves two animals locked in a car on one of the hottest days of the year? Those poor dogs didn’t just die they suffered and baked to death.

It’s cruel, it’s utterly irresponsible, and there is simply no excuse for it.

But it is Clarkson's Farm where the whole picture finally comes into focus

Here is a man with nothing left to prove walking into a field he barely understands and refusing to fake competence he does not have
He has run that farm at break even and then at an outright loss in full public view
No editing it into a success story

His farm manager hands him one brutal truth after another and he sits there and takes it

A whole season swallowed by drought even after he leaned into robotics and the most advanced farming money could buy
Technology was supposed to be the answer and the weather did not care
He showed that too
Most people would have cut it

And through all of it he has done something quietly remarkable
He has dragged the plight of the British farmer into the light
The paperwork, the council, the margins that vanish, the weather that ruins a year of work in a week
People who had never thought about where their food comes from suddenly cared because he made them care

And then there is the part nobody warned me about
Men who raise animals for meat and still love them
Who name them, worry about them, sit with them
Who treat them with respect and dignity right up to the moment they cannot keep them
And feel the full weight of sending them off

He does not hide that
He lets the camera sit in the discomfort of it
The grief of a man who knows the deal he made and still finds it hard

That is not weakness
That is honesty most people are far too afraid to show

We live in an age that rewards the polished, the curated, the carefully built personal brand
And here is a scruffy, swearing, chain smoking farmer who has done the opposite of all of it and won

There was update on Stephen Ogilvie last night.

The doctors said it was looking good and he was a fighter. They tried to bring him out of the coma but he didn’t do well so they had to induce him again.

They’re going to try and take him out gradually to see how it goes.

His throat has had to be stapled from one side to the other, he’s lost his left eye and socket completely, he had 2 surgeries yesterday to rebuild his nose.

The doctors are now focusing on the swelling in his face.

Keep praying for him and his family. 🙏🙏🙏

🚨BREAKING: SPECIALIST DOCTOR SAYS HENRY NOWAK COULD HAVE LIVED IF NOT FOR POLICE

In summary:

- Henry was alive when they arrived and likely clotted
- Aggressive police intervention likely tore clot
- Major Trauma department was minutes away from scene
- Judge and Pathologist were FAR TOO LENIENT on Police
- Henry Nowak had 50% CHANCE to survive
- Absolutely convinced that if he arrived in hospital alive he would have survived

This is disgusting, the family deserve justice

Full breakdown below:

Dr Krzysztof Magier [@DrMagier] based in the Isle of Wight is a qualified Paediatric Care Lead and part of the 'Critical Care Network' with experience in combat medicine training and a specialized course in treating severe injuries (including gunshot and stab wounds) has analysed the footage and claimed the AGGRESSIVE Police intervention may have contributed towards Henry's death.

Dr Magier DISAGREES with the pathologist's and judge's opinion that Henry Nowak had ZERO chance of SURVIVAL.

As well as the claim that handcuffing him essentially changed NOTHING.

In fact he claims the REVERSE IS TRUE, there is a high likelihood that the police intervention CONTRIBUTED TO HENRY'S DEATH.

He analysed the autopsy report, which points to DAMAGE to the subclavian vein as the main source of BLEEDING.

In a healthy person, venous bleeding occurs under low pressure and often self-limits thanks to the NATURALLY FORMING CLOT, while simply approximating the wound edges and compressing the surrounding tissues closes the vein enough to slow or even stop the bleeding.

The body camera footage shows that when police arrived on the scene (likely 5-10 minutes after the injury), Henry was CONCIOUS ENOUGH to speak LOUDLY.

He was therefore NOT YET in a terminal state.

After his arms were twisted behind his back and handcuffed, the vein was most likely STRETCHED, the clot TORN, and BLEEDING DRAMATICALLY INTENSIFIED.

Within just about three minutes, he lost consciousness and DIED.

People with suspected internal injuries should NEVER be moved or yanked abruptly, such actions can destroy the natural clot and lead to massive internal hemorrhage.

Instead of immediately calling a medical rescue team and handing the patient over to paramedics, the police ARRESTED HIM.

If paramedics had arrived first on the scene, Henry’s chances of survival would have been MUCH HIGHER.

AS HIGH AS "50%"—writes Dr. Magier.

Paramedics could have quickly started an IV, administered fluids to increase circulating blood volume, and tranexamic acid to stabilize the clot, and if needed, performed needle decompression (inserting a large, long needle into the lung), because the issue wasn’t so much lack of lung function, but compression of the blood-filled lung on the heart and mediastinum, which blocks circulation.

Worse still, the incident took place just a few minutes' drive by car (2–3 minutes by ambulance with sirens) from Southampton University Hospital—a regional MAJOR TRAUMA CENTRE equipped with a full team of specialists, procedures, and equipment.

"I AM CONVINCED THAT IF HENRY HAD ARRIVED THERE ALIVE THE DOCTORS WOULD HAVE NOT LET HIM DIE"—writes Dr. Magier.

The aggressive police intervention, instead of saving a life, led to death through improper handling of a severely injured person, even though world-class care was just minutes away. "I fear the Judge and pathologist were too lenient toward the police"

Sat in the powerful area of Westminster, this historic, Grade II listed Victorian pub is the only remaining building from the street's original 1862 (Victorian) development.
