Pain is part of being human.
But suffering in silence, spinning in self-doubt, and mistaking discomfort for danger?
That’s optional.
When you zoom out, shift your inner dialogue, and ground yourself—you don’t just survive the hard stuff.
You get stronger because of it.
8. Shift your relationship with the signal.
Discomfort isn’t always a cue to stop—it can be a sign you’re on the edge of growth.
Elite performers learn to reinterpret fatigue, nerves, and stress as feedback, not failure.
The best learn to work with the signal, not against it.
You don’t ignore the pain—you get curious about it.
2. Practice self-distancing.
Research from Ethan Kross at the University of Michigan shows that using distanced self-talk—referring to yourself in the third person—can reduce stress and improve performance under pressure.
Instead of thinking, “I can’t do this,” try, “You’ve been here before. You know what to do.”
It gives you space from the emotion and taps into your wiser, calmer self.
I love my country with all my heart and I've never been more embarrassed for America than the spectacle I just witnessed in the Oval Office.
Zelensky is fighting for the survival of his country, his people and their democracy.
Trump and Vance appear to be completely aligned with Putin, the invader whose aim has been to conquer Ukraine.
Zelensky should know that millions and millions of Americans still stand with him and his valiant people.
Isn’t controlling the media one of the key parts of the authoritarian playbook? We are seeing democracy being dismantled before our eyes. https://t.co/W890P3XifE
"Becoming less reactive is a huge part of growth and decreasing stress. If you let everything get you worked up, you're damaging your mind, body, and spirit."
BREAKING: The US Dept of Ed publishes final rules and was persuaded to not include the onerous attendance-taking requirement for online courses and programs.
This sounds wonky but is very important - it could have caused a massive new bureaucratic burden for colleges and universities offering online courses and programs. As in, nearly all of them.
And there were other good changes in the final rules notice.

@OpenAI@CommonSense Lots more for parents & teachers to read here - the thorough critique we've been waiting for - tho omits privacy concerns which are also fundamental. https://t.co/vLqhPZZ2Tk via @DAIRInstitute@alexhanna@emilymbender @
With anti-transgender hate on the rise, it's more important than ever that we protect and support transgender and gender-nonconforming communities.
Transgender rights are human rights. I will continue fighting so every person can live their lives freely and authentically. 🏳️⚧️
Does anyone know of a useful description of the difference between "knowing" and "understanding?" When people use the terms, I think they generally are appealing to our intuitions. Is there something principled?
NEVER stop fighting! 🥊💎

We are thrilled to be in Washington D.C to accept the prestigious National Blue Ribbon school award. It is the highest possible award that is given to schools by the federal government. We now have six awards since 2017 and only one of two districts in the state with six awards.
“Most of your life will not be extraordinary. Most of your life will be simple things, done regularly. If you are only going to be happy when you’re on vacation, after a lush payday, after a big career win, you’re going to spend most of your life dissatisfied...” @briannawiest
Kamala Harris talks to young people during her concession speech:
“To the young people who are watching, it is okay to feel sad and disappointed. But please know it’s going to be okay. On the campaign, I’d often say when we fight we win. Sometimes the fight takes a while. That doesn’t mean we won’t win… don’t ever give up.”
“Life becomes more peaceful when you truly understand and embody the idea that you can’t keep stressing over what’s beyond your control. Life will happen, and people will do and say what they want. All you can do is focus on what you can change and let the rest be.” @VexKing
As OpenAI and Meta introduce LLM-driven searchbots, I'd like to once again remind people that neither LLMs nor chatbots are good technology for information access.
