Allah knows that my intention is not to attack JIBWIS as an organisation. However, when the name of Islam is invoked to promote hatred, justify violence, or legitimise the killing of fellow Muslims, silence is no longer an option. The integrity of Islam and the sanctity of human life must take precedence over institutional loyalties.

A few days ago, we witnessed a disturbing incident involving a young person associated with the group, chanting a criminal song with little children. Today, we are confronted with another deeply troubling development: a cleric reportedly advocating the killing of Muslims over theological disagreements.

These incidents raise serious questions that cannot responsibly be brushed aside or dismissed as mere theological controversies.

I therefore reiterate my call for the Federal Government and the relevant security and law-enforcement agencies to investigate credible allegations of incitement to violence, advocacy of unlawful killings, and the promotion of extremist ideologies by JIBWIS/IZALA and any other organisations, in Northern and Southern Nigeria, where evidence warrants such investigations. No organisation should be above scrutiny, and no religious identity should provide immunity from the law.

Let us be absolutely clear: no theological disagreement, doctrinal controversy, or difference in religious interpretation can justify murdering another human being. No cleric has the right to turn theological disagreement into a licence for bloodshed. Declaring fellow Muslims unbelievers and using such declarations to justify their killing is not a harmless exercise in religious polemics; it has become a dangerous instrument of radicalisation and a pathway to extremist violence.

Indeed, when religious rhetoric legitimises murder, we must ask serious questions about the scholarship, ethical formation, and understanding of Da‘wah of those who promote it. Islamic scholarship must be grounded in knowledge, sound judgement, responsibility, and respect for the sanctity of human life, not in reckless pronouncements that endanger lives and poison the religious climate.

This is not about suppressing legitimate theological debate or persecuting an organisation because of its identity. It is about accountability, public safety, and the protection of Islam from ideologies that distort its message and endanger human lives.

Islam must never become a weapon for legitimising murder. The sanctity of human life must stand above sectarian loyalty, and the law must apply to everyone without fear or favour.
