🚨🔵 Watching the taunts Real Madrid received after losing 1-0 yesterday, you would think they played terribly. 😂 This is another thing I’m learning from Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea: results matter.

Look at Chelsea so far. We’ve had some really poor possession numbers, just 38% against Fulham and 26% against Brighton, yet we won both games.

That’s why I’m starting to look at football differently. Of course, you want your team to play well, but sometimes you have to find a way to win even when the performance isn’t perfect. At the end of the day, nobody gives you extra points for having 70% possession or playing beautiful football.

Alonso seems to understand that. If we need to dominate the ball, we can. If we need to suffer, defend and attack in transition, we can do that too. The most important thing is finding a way to get the result.
