The problem we have is structural.
Martínez is averaging 6.0 saves per 90 the highest in PL, and he has only played 2 games for us.

Chelsea have already conceded 7 goals, just one below the league's worst defensive record (8).

Caicedo returning can't instantly fix that.

I have watched the Arsenal game twice more and I can tell you that the gap isn't much and tactically Alonso played a good game.

There are things to work on, but I believe that by the end of the season, we will close that gap even more, because the things I feel we need to improve aren't that difficult to achieve.

His changes in that area reflect he and his team attention to details.

I see a better defense that the other games.

🚨🔵 Watching the taunts Real Madrid received after losing 1-0 yesterday, you would think they played terribly. 😂 This is another thing I’m learning from Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea: results matter.

Look at Chelsea so far. We’ve had some really poor possession numbers, just 38% against Fulham and 26% against Brighton, yet we won both games.

That’s why I’m starting to look at football differently. Of course, you want your team to play well, but sometimes you have to find a way to win even when the performance isn’t perfect. At the end of the day, nobody gives you extra points for having 70% possession or playing beautiful football.

Alonso seems to understand that. If we need to dominate the ball, we can. If we need to suffer, defend and attack in transition, we can do that too. The most important thing is finding a way to get the result.
