This morning, we are filing two felony charges, Depredation Against Property of the United States and Destruction of Veterans' Memorials, in Federal District Court against Melissa L. Farris, offenses that carry penalties of up to ten years in prison. She is now in custody.
Police investigating the World War II Memorial vandalism removed a scroll of paper from a trash can near the scene. The paper apparently had some lettering painted on in a similar color to the paint used in the vandalism.
The privacy screen on the South Lawn has been removed and you can see the new White House helipad from street level today. Interestingly, the helipad has a 2'-3' drop-off on one side, as the helipad is level and the South Lawn is downhill. Unknown if they will re-landscape to continue the South Lawn slope.
